BOATS Seascape Painting by Laurie Justus Pace SOLD Commission Painting. Contact me for Inquiries. Laurie Monday dawns and Terry and I are on the way to see Steve, our doctor/oldest friend. I know I told you before he gave me my first kiss in fifth grade. He is a musician, piano, guitar and bass. In our younger years even 10 years ago, we just to meet on Wednesday nights with Mike Thomas and jam on the guitars and sing. Both of them can really really sing. We made the tours of Terry's mother's nursing home and we sang at Steve's mother renewal wedding vows ceremony. I miss those days! I must carve out time to relax and laugh again. Mom did more unpacking of her bathroom yesterday and then slept all afternoon. She is very quiet these days. Please continue your prayers for her healing. Today I want you to dream. God gave us this ability to dream and plan and have hope. Denis Waitley said "...that you've got to have a dream if you want to have a dream com
PLAYING FOR PAPA Mixed Media on Canvas by Laurie Justus Pace Second in the Series 22 x 28 inches SOLD Thanks for supporting Daily Painters! For Inquiries or a commission piece similar contact: Laurie Sunday has not dawned quite yet. We were awakened earlier around three by a massive thunderstorm but I am not convinced it rained. I think it was all noise. On our new pillows I never have trouble falling back to sleep. I still recommend to ANYONE out there SOVN Pillows. We have slept so soundly and wake up with out neck pain, or headaches...easy to fall asleep and stay asleep and I no longer have that split bed head in the back of my hair. We cannot wait until our mattress arrives. You will hear about that positive or negative when it does. Mother is doing better. Yesterday she had company, helped fold wash, did not run any fever and walked with a lift to her body. I am so relieved to see her begin to come back to life. She lost 15 pounds this week. Although weight loss is okay,
Carved Horse Horse Oil Painting by Laurie Justus Pace 24 x 24 inches For inquiries: Laurie SOLD ON DAILY PAINTERS! Thank You!! Saturday...where has the week gone? Yesterday was totally eaten up by doctor and medical. Mom and I did not make it home until after two and we left at 8:30. By the time I prepared lunch it was 3 when I got into the studio and I didn't start a painting because Terry and I walk at 3:45 when he gets home. We did walk though. We did close to 2.5 miles in fact and in less time! We are walking at the mall because of the heat. Have you ever had that feeling that you were so sick you wanted to die, but then you were scared and didn't want to die? OR that you wanted to live, but you were so scared you didn't want to live because you didn't know how? I am not that way right now, but I know someone else that is. There are times in life that the detour signs are not in front of us. Hedges or trees cover them and we are not sure which way to turn. I
HERD OF EIGHT Horse Oil Painting by Laurie Justus Pace 36 x 48 inches COMMISSIONED PAINTING SOLD Contact me for your own commissioned painting. Laurie This one is almost done. This is a large rendition of a smaller painting I did last year. I am doing two for this new collector. Today I have one more painting to do and I will be 75% caught up if there is such a thing! Yesterday I worked on this one, and on some boats, another small piece that had to be completed. Today I will be working on a BLUE TREE that will go to Sweden to live in a few weeks. Then I will be almost back on track. I painted so much this week I am out of white paint....and found out Asel Art is closed today for inventory...but hopefully Jim will get some out to me despite the closed doors. Early this morning Mom has to be up to go for a doctor's appt with Dr Steve. Dr. Paul Stephen Worrell has been our physician for twenty years. Ever since I moved back to Texas. Terry and I knew him in elementary school
Odd Tree Central Park New York Landscape in Oil by Laurie Justus Pace 18 x 24 x 2 inches Inquiries: Laurie Deep into summer here in Texas I always find myself seeking shade when I am outside. When Mom and I were over at her new house for a visit two days ago, Kyle was there planning the back beds and the water feature. I kept urging mother into the shade. Temperatures are hovering at the 100 plus mark already and this is but June. Usually we see those in late July and early August, so that sort of concerns me. Rain is scarce and the water tables are beginning to drop. Then Terry told me about the Pythons that are spreading across the southern US and how far north we have to move to be safe. An epidemic of pythons? Sounds like something out of the Bible for sure. They are always seeking shade under something where you do not see them. Being aware in our lives is of utmost importance to our survival. We are precious to the Lord and He offers up all we need to make this journey. Som
A Rose for Papa Oil Painting by Laurie Justus Pace 18 x 24 x 2 inches Inquiries Welcome: Laurie SOLD Thanks for Supporting Daily Painters. Mom is sleeping soundly so I have no TV on and no music on. I am so behind on painting it does no good to even think about it right now. Changes in our family are occurring faster than I can blink my eye. She had fever again yesterday so on Friday we return to the doctor. My youngest brother is out of town with his job and my oldest brother is facing a trip to Houston to attend the funeral of one of his oldest friends. Change is a constant. Did you get that message yesterday? Wanted to make sure you were reading. This was one of the days I did not want to get up. I wanted to pull the blanket back over my shoulders and nestle down for two more hours of sleep, maybe three. But I knew if I didn't get up and work I might as well shut down the studio. I cannot hide from my work and the responsibilities I have in life despite this inner urge t
Nibbles Horse Oil Painting by Laurie Justus Pace 8 x 10 inches For inquiries: Laurie Mom is still on the mend here at our house. We have a quiet home with a healing essence with its cocooning feel. We are hoping to get her moved into her new place in a day or two. My brothers have worked with their wives to finish the unpacking and provide a sanctuary for her to live in while we take on the remaining boxes. There is still much to be sorted and given away. We all seem to horde things as we go through this life and if I have learned anything from all our moves, nothing is life or death...it is all just stuff. Terry and I were on our way back from FEDEX yesterday and on LBJ Freeway that circles Dallas. Traffic was horrendous. An 18 wheeler next to us kept drifting into our lane. I was on the phone trying to reach my older brother to make sure he had directions to the doctor's office for mom and I was visiting with my dad. I screeched as the truck lurched at us and Dad was concer
Something's In the Air Horse Oil Painting by Laurie Justus Pace 12 x 16 inches Contact me for information: Laurie Good Monday morning! The day is well underway and a dirty house must be cleaned today along with some paintings packed and some paintings started. Now that my day is fully lined out I can't help but wonder how much I will get done. Maybe half of it...hummm. I downloaded a new version of my Artist Butler and of course in the process again lost 1/3 of my files. They really need to design these programs for dummies. ALTHO I thought I was careful. I did a back up last week, but the only back up showing is one I did six weeks ago, or actually the end of April. That means about two days of record combing backward to reconstruct a mess. LOSS of email address for sure that I cannot retrieve. A stress I didn't need so I will ignore it for a few days and then go crazy. Sounds like something to take on the trip and work on in the car. Maybe we should fly, it would
PEARING UP by Laurie Justus Pace 20 x 40 inches Oil on Canvas SOLD Commissioned Contact me for other work: Laurie It is early Sunday. Mom is sleeping gently in the other room and I will tiptoe to paint this morning, no music, no news, just me and the colors pushing on canvas. Sometimes I enjoy quiet paints! I worry about the phones though. Brothers all started calling at seven thirty yesterday and my phones going off in succession is enough to wake anyone. I am reloading my book cover for the new book for hopefully the last time. I used EXACTLY the same cover we used for printing last time and it rejected it...go figure. Well, the words rejected it but I think they used it anyway. I have redone it again for the 8th time and am reloading it. Do you think God gets tired of reloading us? We all seem to have trouble seeing the real world we live in. Last night we watched "THE BUCKET LIST". Mom chuckled as we did through several scenes, but the ones that pulled your heart
YOUNG FLIGHT Horse Oil Painting by Laurie Justus Pace 3 ft by 4 ft Oil on Canvas Contact me for inquiries: Laurie Well, Saturday is here, it is almost lunch time and I am finally blogging. We worked so hard yesterday I could not even feel my body by late afternoon. I arrived home about 8 to find mother here worse, spiked fever and chills. Between cold compresses, lots of pedialite and water, it was down to 101 at bedtime, down from over 102...and this morning we are at 99. My oldest brother and his family are still unpacking at the new house. My kids are all finishing up loads at the old house and youngest brother has dad. The rest of my day I am caring for mom and working here in the studio. Carol Spielman and I are finishing up our book for the Jackson Wyoming Show at the Rare Gallery opening on July 12th. This book is a combined labor of love. We also have an ad coming out in the next issue of American Art Collectors for the August Edition, should be out mid July. And our
WILD WHITE by Laurie Justus Pace No Blog today... I am at mom's with the movers. Please pray for a safe move. Grace, Laurie
SKYWARD GAZE Horse Oil Painting by Laurie Justus Pace 18 x 27 inches Contact me for inquiries: Laurie The move continues. My sister-in-law, Terrie, and I completed lining all the kitchen drawers, bathrooms and linen closets. We are ready for kitchen boxes to arrive. The brothers have been making runs with our truck cleaning out the shed and the garage and will begin some box moving today. We continue to keep dad occupied and his confusion grows and that worries me a bit. All prayers are needed. Bought new running shoes yesterday. Course this body will not be running in them. We shop at Luke's on Oak Lawn in Dallas. Fabulous place to get shoes and they do sell on line. You can wear them up to four weeks and if they are not right, you can take them back. Not many places you can do that. As we were checking out there was a large fat book with the words spread across the cover, BIKINI READY IN SIX WEEKS. Not this body. Six weeks? I don't think so. The author was upst
T HEN THERE WERE FIVE Horse Oil Painting by Laurie Justus Pace 11 x 14 inches Contact me with inquiries. Laurie Okay I am behind more before I even started this morning. OUR POWER has been out since eleven yesterday morning. JUST came back on. I have only a few hours to work before Dad comes to visit so this is a SHORT blog today! Terry and I did two and a half miles late yesterday so our walking continues. His dad joined us and then we went back to his place to visit and share memories. Always a pleasure. His dad is one of those light/joy passers and always leaves you feeling positive and uplifted when you leave his presence. Your worries and frustrations just melt away. He shared some cherished moments with us and made us chuckle. He lives in an apt condominium for the older folks and he was created a beautiful garden for the residents to sit in and enjoy. We were honored with a tour of the flowers and plants he is growing. The center is helping with benches strategically placed
RED FIRE Horse Oil Painting by Laurie Justus Pace 8 x 10 inches framed in wide gold frame. Contact me for inquiries: Laurie Can I say my feet hurt? I told Terry I had to get some exercise before we head to Jackson Hole for the show in July. Elevation is 6500 feet and we are at what maybe 200? So I started wearing my step counter and we did laps at North Park last night. Boy my feet hurt this morning! Must be time for new shoes. I started working on a commission painting yesterday but my time ended as Dad woke and I prepared breakfast for us. Then younger brother scooped him up to take him home to shower and change. Older Brother scooped him up to take him to the office. The rest of the day was spent checking on movers, painters, piano tuners and piano movers, getting both deals closed on the selling and buying end of their homes, getting mom settled in from the hospital as everyone left from house signing. (Many thanks to Janet Pendolph at Republic Title for her house call.) Runni
CALL OF THE WILD HORSES Horse Oil Painting by Laurie Justus Pace 18 x 24 inches The Rare Gallery, Jackson Hole, Wyoming For inquiries: Laurie Dad is sawing logs in the next room. Bless his heart as he is pretty frazzled with Mom still in the hospital. He is a brave trooper. Yesterday morning as he drank his coffee sitting with me in the living room he said, "I feel like I am in the service again. I wake up in strange beds in strange places and have no idea what is on the other side of the door when I walk through it." Spoken with such dignity for an Alzheimer's patient. We are hoping mom is released today from the hospital, if not Dad will continue his stay here with us. Mom looked quite a bit better at the hospital yesterday. She is not very hungry though. The nurse walked in and said, "as soon as the IV is disconnected I need you up and walking and we need to see a productive bowl movement." The nurse disappeared as lunch appeared. As I lifted the cover
Inspired Back Nude Oil by Laurie Justus Pace Inspired by William Merritt Chase late 1800's 11 x 14 oil on Linen Panel Framed in beautiful ornate gold frame. Contact me for availability. This is heading to Jackson Hole for the July 12th opening. But it is available to purchase. Laurie What a busy Saturday! We did make our CPS Behavior Management Class. It was taught by Patricia Miller out of Euless, Texas. She was AWESEOME! Every parent should have to take a class from this woman. Her teachings are to the point on handling children. She is a way better personality than Dr Phil on teaching and engaging you into role playing and understanding the mind of the child. As we were in class I received a buzz from brother that mom was having emergency Gall Bladder removal. She came through the surgery fine and hopefully will come home today. She looked pretty rough still last night when we popped in for a five minute visit. Dad is here sleeping soundly (I hope for awhile). (I want to
White Pony Horse Oil Painting by Laurie Justus Pace 12 x 16 inches SOLD Thanks for Supporting Daily Painters! Our journey changes with in seconds. I know I wrote about predictability yesterday, and God's sense of humor NEVER ceases to amaze me. That is another fact, make a plan and you can hear God laughing. My parents are moving in less than a week. We have been busy packing up and downsizing their contents to move into a smaller home. I was there packing yesterday and Mom was not feeling her normal chipper at all. Long story short, a trip to the ER and admission into the hospital and she has severe gall stones. Let's see, closing on their house is Monday as is the purchase of the new house. Movers arrive on Friday. We have a lot to do. We need a lot of prayers. This is not a time for long reflections or my normal exchange. Need to get Dad going (he has Alzheimers) and off to my youngest brother. Terry and I have a CPS class today and time is already running short. Grace
VEILS UNDER THE STARS Contemporary Art by Laurie Justus Pace 24 x 24 inches Oil on Canvas Contact me to purchase: Laurie Yes, this painting is not predictably something I would paint. Sometimes different is good. The paint is hugely thick with edges everywhere. Used a lot of paint for sure! Predictable. Are you a predictable person or are you more spontaneous? I can't help but wonder as we get older if we get more predictable. Some folks are predictable at age 2 and never change. Others you never know when or where they will show up and they are that way their entire lives. But on the average I am thinking most of us get more predictable as we get older. There is something about NO SURPRISES that keeps us over fifty living longer. I like new places and new things and meeting new people, but I predictably like sleeping in my own bed with my own pillows. I figure that is why the older generation is so fond of pulling those travel trailers behind their pickup trucks, or why th
BIRD AND BUFFALO By Laurie Justus Pace 24 x 36 inches Oil on Canvas For the show in Jackson but it is available if you like it, contact me : Laurie Terry and I worked in our little mini garden until the mosquitoes threatened to pick us up and haul us away. He grilled sausages and hamburgers out on the grill last night and I prepared fresh Corn on the cob and potatoes to eat with it. We will have leftovers tonight. Makes it easier to cook once for two days. The heat outside is worse than the norm for Dallas right now. This is more like July. Our lives are busy with helping my parents with things at their home coming up this week, along with painting and keeping up with life's responsibilities. One of my new prayer requests lately is for our home to be filled with Joy. Do you have JOY in your life right now? It starts with you. Joy grows out of faith, grace, gratitude, hope and love. It is the pure and simple delight of being alive. Joy is a response we have to feelings of hap
Spirit of Fire Horse Oil Painting by Laurie Justus Pace 30 x 40 inches Oil on Deep Gallery Wrap Canvas Available at my Show opening July 12th The Rare Gallery Jackson Hole, Wyoming Contact me to purchase or if you are interested in commission work. Laurie I am itching to paint, but still scrambling with LULU.com on the new book. I had the cover too large and had to rebuild it this morning. I hope to have this all completed in the next three hours and I desperately need to paint. Paint for my sanity! We went yesterday to buy new pillows and came home purchasing not just new pillows but a new mattress too. Svon mattress and pillows. Very interesting experience and the bed is actually built after you buy it. We only buy mattresses every 8-10 years, and I figure it is a worthwhile purchase if we sleep better. This does not have the traditional box springs. I was VERY impressed with their system. When I lay on the individual beds trying them out yesterday, I laid still closing my eye
He's The Baby Cow Oil Painting by Laurie Justus Pace 20 x 20 inches Contact me for information and mention the title of the painting. Laurie Busy Tuesday for us. FEDEX run as well as grocery shopping. Terry boxed yesterday and I started cleaning house...maybe I will finish today! We did get clean sheets on the bed last night and that always feels good. Today I will do the rest of the wash and finish up the house. Surprises yesterday arrived, some beautiful crystal dessert bowls from a dear friend. They arrived safely all the way from Australia. I was not expecting them and it is so fun to get unexpected surprises in the mail. I finished the book that Carol and I have been working on. The name of the show in Jackson is CROSSING PATHS. Carol and I have an ad coming out for the August issue of American Art Collectors. I also ran a half page ad for July too! It is below: My thoughts today run to not only forgiving people in your life that YOU think did a wrong thing to you or
THROUGH THE COLOR Horse Abstract Oil Painting by Laurie Justus Pace 18 x 27 inches Contact me to purchase and please mention title of painting: Laurie If you are not into deep thought, stop reading this blog right now....I had a lot on my mind last night when I went to bed. After about an hour, I finally let it go, so I could go to sleep. There is so much prep work for the show in Jackson Hole. I have only one more page to complete in the book I am doing with artist Carol Spielman . Sixty some odd pages of FABULOUS artwork. I will hyperlink her name so you can see her work too. Read on with care as I try to express something from deep in my heart. When thinking about the bible verse I posted below it was easy to think about living the straight and narrow. Not making bad choices; living clean and not doing wrong. Then as I sat and reflected about it I decided it goes so much deeper. Destruction. We seem to destroy ourselves. Others do not have to do it for us. We are usually hard
APPALOOSA THREE Horse Oil Painting by Laurie Justus Pace 36 x 36 x 2 inches $3500 Contact me for Information on this painting. Laurie July 12th is my opening show in Jackson Wyoming at the Rare Gallery. If you are in the vicinity I hope you will come! This is one of the pieces I have completed for the show. My original Appy painting lives in Australia and it has been so popular with my posters I decided to paint her a second time in my current style. An artist style evolves over time as they paint. Small strokes change with applied pressure and things just change. Natural evolution in our lives is aging. The world is aging, we are aging; it is all part of the cycle of life that God created in our world. Think of the short span of flowers...as they bud, open and bloom and linger for a short time before they wither on the vine. Trees have a longer life. They start out small and grow tall and spread beautiful canopies of shade for us. They live for years some hundreds of years,
LADY C Horse Painting by Laurie Justus Pace 48 x 72 inches Mixed Media, Acrylic Glazing SOLD Commission Contact me for Commission work: Laurie In the midst of busy studio life I completed the layering on this commission painting. The size is 48 by 72 inches. (4 ft by 6 ft) I did a smaller one earlier this week to see how I liked working with the layers and glazing and it was definitely different. This particular piece does not have the music in the background, but has Lady Chatterly's Lover page by page. Personally I would have like a nude stretched across it, but this family has small children so it was best to be a horse theme. If you really look at it you see the "HEART" or the heART with in. Combine the check of the large horse on the right and follow the heart shaped into neckline and shoulder of the running horse. This was not planned at all, it happened as I worked and I saw it as I was glazing it during the final layers. That is one of God's inputs I a
A Pair of Cows Farm Animal Oil Painting by Laurie Justus Pace 18 x 27 inches of Thick Oil Paint. Contact me for information: Laurie We completed our Medications class and only have one more class to renew for our Foster License. We saw some of the couples last night that were in our classes a year ago, also renewing their license with updating classes. She had given birth to a baby 8 months ago and had her little one with her. I am thinking they had three other children at home and they are doing fostering. She laughed and said they were licensed 5 weeks ago and they were called with in hours to take a brand new infant from the hospital. SO she has a new baby at home along with her four! THAT is not what we will do! We will offer respite care to foster homes that need it as well as foster adopt a teenager. God is in control on this one and you better believe Terry and I are walking on the water with Jesus with this one! There are moments of pure panic, WHAT ARE WE DOING??? The
Primary Colors Horse Art by Laurie Justus Pace 24 x 24 inches Acrylic on Canvas Contact me for information: Laurie Quick post and out the door to see and take pictures at the house that has the large paintings in. I will try and take pictures of the paintings. I exploded on the painting above with all the primary colors. It seems a bit raw, bright and edgy but it got some energy out of my system. Sometimes you have to break what you normally do and do something else! This was it. Know you rest in God's care today and release what you can to him. Drop that worry and let yourself rest in His peace. Give a smile to those your work with today and let your light brighten their day. Grace, Laurie “Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.” 1 Thessalonians 5:11
First Recital Acrylic Mixed Media Collage Piano and Child by Laurie Justus Pace 15 x 30 inches Contact me to Purchase and mention the title of the painting. Laurie I do believe my daughter starts her day with my blog and goes into a panic mode when it is not up by seven a.m. I was busy again. I was watering plants in my garden room, sketching out paintings to work on this week, making a list for what has to be completed by my July 12th show in Jackson Wyoming at the Rare Gallery, checking for airline reservations, hotel reservations etc etc etc. BUT meanwhile I had been layering and working on the painting posted. It is a new trial and error thing with glazing over old music from great granddaddy Haskell. This particular music was marked 1909 with renewal in 1936. Pretty old music I might say. I chose the Song HAPPY BIRTHDAY, but not the one you are thinking of. This was for Mrs. Corinne Rider-Kelsey. I guess back then they hyphenated names too. The music was written by R Hunting
WAITING TO EAT Cow painting by Laurie Justus Pace 18 x 24 inches of COLOR OIL SOLD THANK YOU FOR SUPPORTING DAILY PAINTERS!! I am late with this blog. I was out with my mom on appts and had at least five phone calls from various friends worried that I had not blogged yet this morning! YELLOW FLOWERS by Laurie Justus Pace 20 x 20 inches Oil on Canvas Contact me to purchase and include name of painting. Laurie A very quick blog as we tend to last minute things around the house. I will try and take pictures as we finish up. Terry has the gate done in the backyard. He and Morgan will move the boat this morning so it is not sitting in the middle of the back yard. The extra boat pieces will be stored next to the side of the house. He has the horrible itch to get a second boat trailer for the second boat but I suggested a storage area when he said that. He then said, I have a back yard, and I said...you need lawyer first. I do not think I am over sensitive to TWO huge sailboats taking over the entire backyard. I am on a mission to find out more about Alzheimer Trained Dogs. I now know they exist. I found the first one was trained in Israel. There are a few here in the states, but not many. This is a void that must be filled. With the growing number of Alzheimer
Brilliance of Summer Horse Oil Painting by Laurie Justus Pace 15 x 30 inches Oil on Canvas Contact me to purchase. Laurie I am aching from work yesterday... one day at a time. Today will be even harder with house work today preparing for one more inspection for our Foster Adopt license to be completed at the new house! Terry is working on the gate for the fence in the backyard and trying to clean up the mess out there. I have the house to contend with following the week of painters and window people. TO work to work! As I take a moment to pause and realize GOD is in control. God is present all around me and He is keeping me safe, even from myself and over working today. Where ever I am, God is. This truth of this will sustain me through this day and every day! No matter where I am I know this. Scrubbing the tub, walking the dog, driving to the store...God is always with me. His presence is with you right now. Grace, Laurie "Seek the Lord and his strength, seek his presence con
