I cannot believe it has been 13 years since I painted this sunflower painting. By far it is one of my favorites. The purples contrast the yellows and sing a joyful sound as they blend together. You can actually feel the wind here in Texas, blowing through! This past week’s journey took us to the Tone Guitar Shop in Southlake. I have been in there a half dozen times, looking or with someone buying a guitar.  It was to be an expedition as I decided to trade in two of my guitars for one newer something. This is the only place to go. Everyone there is one of the best I have worked with.  I laughed over this photo…I had them all trying to find my guitars for values and they had each picked them up and played them and truly felt the beauty of them….and to work they went.   The photo was my second trip of three to accomplish this.  I have an injured arm, my right arm is out of commission until I go through Physical therapy. This painting "Under Texas Stars" is one I totally forgot about having the deep blue backgrounds.  I painted this in 2014 and it sold immediately after I placed it on my website.  Texas is a wide open state with a few glitches called Dallas, Ft Worth, Austin, San Antonio, Houston etc.  Those big cities are so bright they often outshine the stars where it is nothing but city lights.  The night sky in Texas is incredible. Often when I am painting, I will do two things...  The first is to reverse the photo from left to right. There I can see all issues with balance or color.  We are all one eye dominate and that controls how we see things!  You can put a photo or painting in front of the mirror or use your iphone and then edit and flip it.   See below. Values are a bit harder...  Taking a photo or painting into black and white with gradients allows you to see the values and balance of a piece of work. Values are lights and darks. Can you see them?
