Lesson Two for Art... Seven Elements of Art... SHAPES by Texas Artist Laurie Pace

Lesson Two Seven Elements of ART SHAPE ( We have done Line and this week we are doing Shape.) When contemplating shapes and all the many times I have taught shape to younger students, it consisted of drawings of three shapes and creating a composition with it.   For the example I chose a rectangle, a circle and a triangle.  You can see there are endless combinations for those three objects, but the key is training your eye for composition and what really works with balance to the eye.  There are also other factors, is the surface a square, a rectangle horizontal or vertical? Going a little bit further sharing some ideas that are more fun, and maybe this week I would have time to explore it too... is the idea of creating a mandala.  Originally Hinduism/Buddism, Mandalas have come down through the centuries as part of our art, with many parts filtering into all faiths.    Painted 17th Century Tibetan "Five Deity Mandala Wikipedia  http://en.wik

He Brought Me Roses, Contemporary Rose Palette Knife Painting by Texas Artist Laurie Pace

© G.O.D. Laurie Justus Pace      Graphics One Design 2013 He Brought Me Roses  18 x 24 inches Oil on Canvas.  WOW... it was fun getting to paint. I decided to warm up with my knife and did a floral, which I have not done in quite awhile. I decided this because one of my collectors that bought two horse paintings last month loves my flowers the best and wondered why I was not painting them...  This is a huge close up...(click it)  so you have a textured feel of the canvas.  Contact me if you are interested in purchasing this painting. Email here. Trust in him at all times, you people; pour out your hearts to him, for God is our refuge.  Psalm 62:8 Laurie Pace A Texas Artist Pace Studio  Graphics One Design My Blog          My Website          Giclees on Canvas, Prints and Cards          CFAI.co      GALLERY LINKS Mirada Fine Art Denver CO ,   The Rare Gallery Jackson Hole WY   The White Dog Gallery

Taking Flight Contemporary Horse Painting in Progress by Texas Artist Laurie Pace

© G.O.D. Laurie Justus Pace      Graphics One Design 2013 Taking Flight 24 x 36 inches Oil on Canvas. Coming Soon.  This is another canvas I have sketched on that has sat in the studio patiently waiting to be explored and painted.  Hopefully sometime this coming weekend I can paint again!  This wild horse is definitely jumping into the wind... it reminds me of our Paddy dog when he leaps. When we leap in life... we must have faith. In you, Lord my God, I put my trust.  Psalm 25:1 Laurie Pace A Texas Artist Pace Studio  Graphics One Design My Blog          My Website          Giclees on Canvas, Prints and Cards          CFAI.co      GALLERY LINKS Mirada Fine Art Denver CO ,   The Rare Gallery Jackson Hole WY   The White Dog Gallery Carbondale, CO. Hesitation in progress, sketch on Canvas, Contemporary Fine Art by Texas Artist Laurie Pace

© G.O.D. Laurie Justus Pace      Graphics One Design 2013 Sketch on Canvas "Hesitation"  18 x 24 inches Oil on Canvas.  I have had this sketched out for about three weeks, but the Artists of Texas has their fifth annual art show in Dallas opening in about a month and I had to finish the show book.  So painting has been not happening in my studio despite the pre-sketched canvases along the wall.  Little Girl on the Beach... painting to be soon. Stay tuned for another child at the beach in a different palette. I long to see you so that I may impart to you some spiritual gift to make you strong— that is, that you and I may be mutually encouraged by each other’s faith. I do not want you to be unaware, brothers and sisters,[d] that I planned many times to come to you (but have been prevented from doing so until now) in order that I might have a harvest among you, just as I have had among the other Gentiles.   Romans 1:11-13 L

Rope Dance, Cowboy Horse Cow Painting, Western Art by Texas Artist Laurie Pace

© G.O.D. Laurie Justus Pace      Graphics One Design 2013 Rope Dance 2007  30 x 30 inches Oil on Canvas.   This one will be worked on this next week. I wanted to post it like it is and then I will repost the after I work it further. I went through a roping stage in 2007 and painted a few of these pieces in this series.  This was in the box with the 30 x 30 Appaloosa Painting I shared yesterday.  Lady L was quite taken with it and knew exactly what was happening. I guess it is good when a four year old 'gets' your painting.  Maybe I am on the right track after all.  This painting has its 'spirit'. These are the things God has revealed to us by his Spirit. The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God. For who knows a person’s thoughts except their own spirit within them? In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God.  1 Corinthians 2:10-11 Laurie Pace A Texas Artist Pace Stud

Appy Fun Revisited from 2007 Contemporary Horse Paintings by Texas Artist Laurie Pace

© G.O.D. Laurie Justus Pace      Graphics One Design 2013 Appy Fun Revisited 30 x 30 inches Acrylic on Canvas.  The one thing about moving is discovering old horse paintings. This one was done in 2007 but it has such a cute feel to it... if you can say a painting is cute.  When I pulled it out of the box it was more WOW... I remember the day I painted this.  When we moved in 2007, I must have boxed some of these up and I just found the box... what six years later?  I am sure it shows up on Daily Painters somewhere...but it is available if you like.  It truly reminds me of love and joy because the Appaloosa looks that dorky happy! I have NOT decided what to do with it yet... Will have it hang around a bit because I really like it like it is. A blast from the past. Accept one another, then, just as Christ accepted you, in order to bring praise to God.  Romans 15:7 Laurie Pace A Texas Artist Pace Studio  Graphics One Design

Contour Drawings with Texas Artist Laurie Pace, Element of Art: Line

CONTOUR DRAWING   Element of Art: Line   © G.O.D. Laurie Justus Pace      Graphics One Design 2013 Monday...Monday... right? I decided today to try something different. I have zero idea if I can keep up with it or keep up with you, so let's give it a try.   I have taught workshops for a few years now, but my strength is teaching art.  Not just painting, but teaching art. I have taught art for over 35 years. Just typing this makes me feel old, but I truly have. I have taught in my studio all this time, did about 5 years in private school and probably 6 years in public school in Art.  Having you paint with me daily like other artists do is good, but strengthening your composition skills and sharpening your knowledge in art really gives you a stronger foundation as an artist with your paintings, drawings, sculpting etc. When I teach a workshop much goes into prep for the class and I stress how important it is to set up an area and be ready to make art. I hope you wi

Headstrong Horse Painting by Texas Artist Laurie Pace

© G.O.D. Laurie Justus Pace      Graphics One Design 2013 Headstrong  9 x 12 inches Oil on Canvas. SOLD  This is an older horse painting from maybe 2010 era.  I still enjoy looking back to the steps that brought me to where I am today with my work. An artist grows and changes and learns through life and through practice. It is from the practice they gain the strength and experience. Learning to trust the inner Spirit is the hardest thing for any artists. Tomorrow will be my first art lesson on this blog. All of the art lessons will be posted as well on my art lesson blog... as on this blog I will try to do one every Monday. That give you a few days to try it out, post your work to my blog and the practice for a few more days until the next lesson. See you in the morning.  Have a pencil and a sketch book and be ready. My son, do not let wisdom and understanding out of your sight,     preserve sound judgment and discretion;  they will be li

Falling into Winter, Contemporary Abstract Horse Paintings by Texas Artist Laurie Pace

© G.O.D. Laurie Justus Pace      Graphics One Design 2013 Falling into Winter  24 x 30 inches Oil on Canvas. SOLD  The colors called me to weave into the background of this cool yet warm piece. The cool colors seem to dominate but the warm colors hold the composition together.  The four horses in this contemporary painting are part of the weave of the composition.  Our lives are all interwoven together. The company you chose to keep is part of the weave of the fabric of your life and your journey. Sometimes people come and go in a season in our lives and we ravel apart temporarily until we can knit back the fraying pieces.   Do not be wise in your own eyes;     fear the Lord and shun evil. 8 This will bring health to your body     and nourishment to your bones. Proverbs 3:7-8 POST NOTE:  Just a few days away....On the 23rd of September will be my first posted lesson for art for adults. I am hoping to do it at least once a week. L
