This Appaloosa, painted years ago while I lived at Lake Cypress Springs, a photo of it found its way back into my hands this week and reminded me why I fell in love with painting horses in the first place. As artists, we often look backward to move forward. Studying older work can reveal forgotten color combinations, fresh ideas, and even the confidence to begin again. Looking at this painting, I was reminded that color has always been my language. The past few months have been a season of healing. This week I reached a small but meaningful milestone, and with it came the realization that perhaps my path back to the easel is closer than I imagined. Perhaps Discovery Comes Next...

Rain changes color. The trees grow greener, the sky becomes clearer, and the landscape seems to come alive again. As an artist, I notice those changes immediately. This morning I came across an older painting I had not seen in years. Looking at the vibrant horses and rich palette knife color reminded me of a season when painting came naturally and joyfully. It also reminded me how much life can change our direction. After years of family responsibilities, loss, and time away from the easel, I find myself asking an important question: What comes next?
