Savage Spring ~ Horse 24 X 24 inches Oil on Canvas A Painting a Day Click here to bid! Well, it is indeed a savage spring. We have had tornadoes, winds, hail and rain...lots of rain, actually close to 10 inches! I have been home today working in the studio painting....and now am heading to the daughters to have dinner! YUMMM. She called and said I could bring dessert, so I just took OUHY GOUHY St Louis Butter Cake out of the oven. Oh my must it be high in heart attack. Two sticks of butter, 8 oz cream cheese, a pound of powder sugar, three eggs etc....Larry doesn't even eat desserts but she does, so I made it. I ate so much while stirring it I am already full. Tomorrow is Palm Sunday. I probably will be up early and then to church with them. Most of you that follow my blog know that Terry works on Sundays...but he is taking off for Easter next week. I have pulled out my recipe for HOT CROSS BUNS. You must think I am hungry with all this baking, but it is the fault of the ear p
ROOSTER THREE Palette Knife Series Oil on Canvas 18 x 24 inches A Painting A Day SOLD GOOD THURSDAY MORNING! I am preparing to EXIT the studio. Today is teaching day and I want to clean house. We are expecting storms later but the floors are pretty bad from the dogs. We took them both to be groomed this week, so they are clean, but the floors...NOT. I think I need a break from painting. I worked on some flowers this morning which I did list on artbyus.com . If you have never looked for paintings there, it is an awesome place to list because the Togels that own the site do not presently keep any percentage of your sale...this is good for the artist. It is also good for buyers to shop there and find good art. I noticed today several new outstanding artists listing on ABU . Today in class I am still working out the lesson. We were doing mixed media...I am between that and doing a wet watercolor and using salt. It is such a neat effect to watch the salt pull the water in the compo
ON THE RUN TWO HORSE Oil on Canvas 24 x 30 inches A Painting A Day Egads it is already afternoon. I have been busily working in the studio all day painting since four this morning. I am getting hungry. Terry phoned from the grocery store saying he will cook...so I may have to munch a handful of honey nut cheerios to last until then! This is another painting in my Horse Play Series... on the Run Two. Contrasting colors and heavy paint applied with a palette knife... might be perfect for your house! Cooler temps today, altho 82 was forcasted. We should work outside with heavy rain due tomorrow, but I doubt we will. We only have two more early morning wakeups with Terry's shift...I am counting down the days for more sleep. Six hours does not cut it. Diane Whitehead sent me a next site with a speaker last night...from Lake Wobegan. I probably murdered the spelling. Will share the link if you want it. It was incredibly entertaining and very relaxing to listen to. Definitely s
Magnolia Peace 30 x 30 inches Oil on Canvas A Painting a Day $499 I made add some more tones to this one....it didn't photograph well, it is a bit more warm in overall feel with all the lovely caramel brown tones. I finished this one up yesterday. BIGGEST NEWS...it is raining raining raining. We are desperate for rain so this is a welcome thing. Last night I was snuggled in bed and Terry called out for me to come sniff....he smelled smoke. As I hit the den and took a whiff, I whirled around and grabbed jeans and shoes and began exploring with him. Nothing had problems in the attic, or out front, but in back it was smokey and smelly...and it was pouring down rain. We continued to search for 10 min and finally I called a neighbor on the reverse side of the circle where we live and asked them to go outside...it was strange because I could not smell the smoke in the front, only the back...we are on acreage. In just moments they confirmed the same smoke and smell....we still do n
MORNING HAZE ON THE HORIZON ~ Horses 18 x 36 inches Oil on Canvas A Painting A Day SOLD It is late on Saturday Afternoon. Just got Morgan off and heading home after we all enjoyed prime rib, new potatoes mashed, organically grown corn, and a fresh salad...all organic. We are pretty strict on that! Terry, Morgan and I took Paddy, our male Kerry Blue Terrier to the FT WORTH Dog Show today to see if he is show quality...which we found in disappointment he is not. He will be 'Fixed" in May....he definitely wigged out around all the dogs, but the handler was ABSOLUTELY great with him. We were more than impressed. I felt like a mom taking my child to school the first day and they sent him home! Painting this morning I started two different horses, but this one I posted I finished last week...one of my colorful horses on the horizon. I love these colors....that is why the name for the painting! It would hang nicely in our room. Have to close quickly...gotta clean the kitchen an
Brilliant Red Gerbera 24 x 24 inches Oil on Canvas A Painting a Day $499 Good morning. I did not make Dallas this morning...headache is a lingering thing right now. I am struggling with some hands I am painting for a commission piece. I have prayed about it and it hit me to try it over on a linen or smoother canvas. I really dislike starting over since I have 12 hours in this painting, but it is not working.... so today we will regroup. Meanwhile yesterday I finished this painting....VERY thick paint and a criss cross pattern. Bright and cheery and ready to finish drying to travel to it's new home, where ever that might be! We have MAC class again this afternoon. MAC Quicken...ugh ugh UGH UGH. Can't say it loud enough and to top it off, QUICKEN lies...I was told it was identical to the PC version and it IS NOT. It is watered down milk toast in comparison. SOOOO we enrolled into QUICKEN MAC classes to make sure I am not missing something. Tomorrow I may appologize! BUT
POPPY RED 16 x 20 inches Oil On Canvas A Painting A Day $169.00 A quick note before I go take my two miles walk with Talana. We are TRYING to get some exercise. Today is also teaching day. I will be preparing watercolor paper for the children and finishing up another painting. Terry and I worked in the yard yesterday watering in the fertilizer they put on a few days ago. So life is busy! Hope all is well with you! This painting is a simple wide brush stroke piece of a brilliant red poppy. Sometimes I just paint for fun and this was one of those pieces...bright happy and joyful! Grace, Laurie "And this I pray, that your love may abound still more and more in knowledge and all discernment." Philippians 1:9
Spring Play 24 X 30 inches Oil on Canvas A Painting a Day $699 Well, it is afternoon now. I was up painting away when my phone rang at 6:30 a.m. Youngest son called to tell me he was sitting on his floor wet. He had fallen in the shower and thought he broke his leg. I couldn't do anything, I live over an hour away and in morning traffic almost two hours away. Back to painting. Finished this one this morning as I get into mood for my Horse Play Series. This is Spring Play. THICK paint with a palette knife! GLORIOUS colors! Grace, Laurie "As each one has received a gift, minister it to one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God." 1 Peter 4:10
HORSE PLAY T2 Oil on Canvas 4 x 6 inches A Painting a Day SOLD Good morning. Short note today. IT IS MAC LESSON DAY! YEAH...but they only give me an hour. I have my list prepared for the genius behind the bar...they work with you one on one or you can take classes...as many as you want for only $99 a year....Terry and I will definitely get our money worth. Terry is packing paintings while I am printing shipping labels. We are late a day in shipping because of his flight on the B17. It was fascinating to watch from the ground...he was up almost 40 minutes though and took some great video. I became ill watching the video...ya know how the camera is bouncing and rolling??? AND when he would have to let go of the camera to hang on as the plane would drop and bank and tilt....well, the camera would go wildly loose out of his hands swinging on the neck rope.... I thought I would never get by the rolling stomach yesterday and that was from watching the movie he shot. Don't think I will
CITY BLOCKS T1 CityScape 6 x 6 inches Oil on Board A Painting a Day SOLD Good morning. We are off to Dallas for Terry to fly in a B17...what more does a guy need??? They even offered him a job to travel with them 10 months out of the year working on the three big birds they keep up flying. The one he is flying in is Nine o Nine. I intend to find out more about the possibility of him doing this for a year....another dream of his! Meanwhile my blog is short this morning because we must get on the road and fight the traffic!!!!! More later tomorrow. Grace, Laurie "By this we know love, because He laid down His life for us. And we also ought to lay down our lives for the brethren." 1John 3:16
Horse Play T 1 4 x 6 inches Oil on Gallery Wrapped Canvas A Painting a Day SOLD It is early and I must be painting...so I can get out of the studio early today. This is the first in an OSWOA size that I will be doing to prepare for larger ones for my Wyoming Show and for ebay. It gives some folks the opportunity to collect a painting at a lower price. This has a buy it now on it on eBay for $149.00 CLICK HERE for auction. Starting price is only $69. My studio is clean. My paints arrived from Dick Blick...yeah and Rupen is busy making my canvas which should arrive later this next week. I am inking along with a smaller inventory of canvas! I waited too long to order. Morgan, my son the painter, is coming over today to review Quick Books. He starts a new job on Monday with the need to be proficient! As a loan officer he did not use it at all the past year and he wants to play on my 2007 program....wonder if I can get him to paint while he is here! LOL probably not, but I can hope.
Turning WOLF 18 x 24 inches Oil Painting on Canvas A Painting a Day GOOD MORNING! Well, almost afternoon. I have been up scrubbing down my studio and picking up all my reference books and restacking all my stuff....and finally got to paint....I was reminded of my youngest Kerrie Blue Terrier, Paddy. We are really working hard to curb his attitude on the leash and when Terry puts him down, sometimes we see this turning reaction...but we all know Terry is the Big Dog! I am laughing...I am NOT the big dog. I am the family nothing...actually my youngest, Morgan the painter, use to call me a popcorn fart. That is pretty bad. Actually my strength is there when I need to call upon it. My strength lies in the Lord! A few readers wrote me about their dads after my last post. My dad has Alzheimers. He really does well and my mom is a saint. I worry though because I have had so many folks warn me that the female caretakers (ie my mom) is in danger because of the risk to stress she endures and
ROOSTER TWO 18 x 24 inches Oil on Canvas A Painting a Day SOLD BUSY day here. Was in Dallas from six thirty this morning until we arrived home an hour ago...I stuffed my self with chicken from the cauldren of death...our nickname for chicken express, and then decided to post ROOSTER TWO.... oh well. I had fun with my dad today. He struggles with memory issues. After sharing oatmeal and juice, we headed out to North Park in Dallas to walk the mall...we were doing good until we passed BUILD A BEAR for the second time...and he wanted to build a bear for my mom...and we did!!! What a heartstring tug! He made a wish and kissed the heart he put in her little bear. He also found roses to put in the bears hand and chose to let it play a lullaby if she pressed it's paw. Those are memory makers. Well, rooster two brings me closer to my huge rooster I must do next week..hang in there with me. Grace, Laurie "Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I fear no evil; for you are wit
Inspired ~ Horse 16 X 20 inches Oil on Canvas A Painting A Day SOLD Good morning! Despite the grunge I have been painting. This beauty was inspired by a gentleman named FLAMMY from Tennessee. It is out of the norm for me, but I enjoyed painting it! Smooth brushwork with the freedom of impressionism. Foggy outside this morning. As I sent Terry off to work early I rubbed my eyes in disbelief at the loss of visual outside...pretty thick fog. He promised to phone me when he arrived at the airport hanger. MEANWHILE I am painting and playing catch up. I spent an hour on the Mac last night building my web site and catching it up. Not quite my favorite, but it will be easy to update and maintain. Check it out. www.ellepace.com I will be inserting more things as we go as well and tweaking it to be where I want it. I have had such fun with Charlene up north as I have adjusted to my MAC. She keeps me updated and abreast of so many things. John, a Mac user, and myself are trying to convin
THE DANCE Horse 24 x 36 inches Oil on Canvas A Painting a Day Good morning from the studio. I went to bed with hot Peppermint tea and a sore throat...seem to have some type of infection this morning so only running on half my body! I am painting though and finished up this unique quarter horse. It is my interpretation of the dance you see as a horse moves enjoying the air and the freedom surrounding him. When was the last time you saw a HUMAN break out in dance walking down the street? Life might be more interesting if we expressed joy so openly. Grace, Laurie “O Lord, how manifold are your works! In wisdom you have made them all; the earth is full of your creatures.”—Psalm 104:24
POWER OF WHITE HORSES By Laurie Justus Pace Oil on Canvas 30 X 30 inches A Painting a Day SOLD It is already seven. I have not adjusted to DLS well...sleeping less...and I think that means more weight gain. I am on my way to the MAC WORLD to have some files transfered between the PC and the new Mac. I have pretty well figured out things, but we signed up for a year of lessons as we need them...which is good for Terry and I both. This machine flies....THEN home to clean house and enjoy our 80 degrees outside. My we must be in for a hot summer....need to book plans out of state for sure. The painting posted doesn't photograph with the power it has in person, but the blending of the colors with the palette knife brought out a dimension depth in the background. It will be available on Ebay in the next few days. Email me if you are interested in this piece. Grace, Laurie “We must always give thanks to God for you, brothers and sisters, as is right, because your faith is growing abu
COLOR OF KOI FIVE 2007 30 X 30 inches Oil on Canvas A Painting A Day SOLD on BLOG! KOI is always fun to paint. I normally do not use this palette of contrasting blues and oranges. Usually when I paint my koi, the oranges are more in the quinacridone family, not the orange orange family. I did retain the blues and sea greens though for contrast and the added black to pop the fish out. Fish always remind me of so many bible stories and connections to life...I am Water as far as my element and leaning toward some changes in art that might reflect such. From water I draw strength...and we live in the driest area with out water...perhaps that is why I need to rework the acre around my home to become a sanctuary for my life...I am ready. The next door neighbor rented a huge tractor, digger, grader...I do not know what to call it...but has been digging up the ugly clay around the house and putting in good soil. This is good in theory, but I would tend to consult an engineer first, wonder
ROOSTER ONE 2007 16 X 20 inch Oil on Canvas A Painting A Day SOLD FIRST, let me say I AM NOT A ROOSTER person! I love Natalie though and she wants a giant rooster for her home in LA. She also wants a palette knife rooster. Well, as a painter of horses this is a stretch...a stretch that requires some preliminary painting to get into the rhythm of painting roosters, especially a GIANT one on 3 by 4 foot canvas. SO be prepared for a rooster a week! It was fun and I will be playing around with different colors. This one is on auction on eBay...if I can figure out my new MAC will try and do a link to the auction. CLICK HERE> Today is commission painting day and I will be in the studio working on Roses and Hands...two different pieces. Tomorrow hopefully on horses for a collector in NY. I will delay MR ROOSTER for a week or so. I cleaned up the studio last night...still cramped with the new MAC sitting on top of my computer desk. It would not fit in the hole. I will have to h
Texas Oak One 2007 Fauvism Landscape 18 x 36 inches Oil on Canvas A Painting a Day SOLD Good Friday morning. I am still unraveling things with the new mac. My camera does not work, I still do not have SKPE loaded on, but I am getting there. Phones are still messed up here which you would think would not help things, but actually I get more done.... Art classes were yesterday and we painted shoes. What fun we all had. Then in the painting class we are working on developing values in our paintings from the first stroke, to be aware of darks and lights and the in between. We became tongue twisted on the DARKEST DARK, the MIDDLE DARK and the LIGHT DARK in contrast to the LIGHTEST LIGHT, the MIDDLE LIGHT and the DARKEST LIGHT. It pushes each of them to a point where they have not traveled on canvas...using their left side of the brain at the same time they use the right side. The painting above I debated on...but it was fun, whimsical and full of life. A touch of fauvism with an expl
Racing Off Wild Horse 24 X 36 inches Oil on Canvas A Painting a Day Hints of the west and sunset in this unusual composition! Energy and thick paint abound as I begin to get back into painting again. House is almost clean, just in time to teach today. I still have to get my lesson finished up, finish a painting and set up for classes...and I am still struggling to become MAC proficient! I am almost there. We walked almost three miles early evening last night...that felt soo good. Warm temps, mild skies and neighbors saying hello as we walked. Sometime is amiss with our phones, not sure if it is something I did with this computer or what! But sometimes quiet is good! I will definitely get more work done today. grace to all, Laurie "But I am like a green olive tree in the house of God. I trust in the steadfast love of God forever and ever." Psalm 52:8
Front On Horses 24 x 30 inches Oil on Canvas A Painting A Day Delightful bright colors on this sunny Texas day. I finished this beauty this morning. Caramels and Roses with soft creams and marigolds complete this painting. Thick paint and a palette knife create the ridges and dimension. Well, I am slowly catching up at home. Doing wash and floors and cleaning out left overs out of the refrig. Not sure what we will eat. Terry is due home in the next few minutes. I am on a new computer, a Mac and struggling to regain balance without half my programs on here yet. I will be using the PC for uploading to my website for ebay etc...but otherwise I will be weaning off AOL except for email. TOO Much paper work switching everything. Stacey and Larry are taking off the rest of this week and will return to work next week. They are up at the funeral home today picking up the urn and Grant's ashes. I know it will be another emotional day for them. Yesterday we all met in Dallas and took
WILD RUN Horses Oil on Canvas 12 X 24 inches A Painting a Day SOLD The sun is shining here in Justin Texas, the temperatures outside are bordering 70 degrees...Stacey and Larry are watching as two trees are planted in their backyard....a gift from Terry and I for their home. The Minister did a blessing of their home on Saturday following the services for Grant...new life begins at their home now. My day starts normal...Niki is here until tomorrow and she was in for the funeral. A total help to all of us and I am forever thankful for her friendship and her ability to jump in and handle things. Today is shipping day, Terry is out making boxes, many are for the show that opens in Ohio this next weekend. I was suppose to travel to be there, but doubt I will make the trip right now. It is just a bit soon and I want to be here for the kids if they need us. Terry was listening to classical music, a piece which was pierced with exploding energy from different areas of the orchestra...and he
March Sunflowers Oil on Canvas 24 X 24 inches A Painting A Day SOLD The Household is sleeping and I may crawl back to bed...I am still pretty tired. It was a tremendously long day yesterday with folks in and out and Grant's services. There were folks unable to be seated in the chapel that held 250 people...it was a grand celebration of his life. Darci from DOUBLE HP Horse rescue emailed last night ..."Grant" means "gift"...what a treasured thought that was for both Terry and I to go to bed with! His favorite thing to do was to call 911. Sometimes you would not even know he did it till the police arrived at the door. Talk about panic in your heart. They would come in and have to talk to Grant to see what was wrong and then of course question the poor unsuspecting soul who had not been diligent in watching that Grant was not left alone with the phone. His favorite song this past Christmas was Feliz Navidad and he really rocked to the beat. His favorite stuffe
Entering The Wild ~Horse~ 16 x 20 inches Oil on Canvas A Painting a Day SOLD ON DAILY BLOG Today we will say goodbye to the earthly remains of our grandson. Perhaps a heavy day and I know a difficult one for both Stacey and Larry. Larry has found comfort in the Lord this week asking for signs that Grant didn't suffer and has been given two...at separate times...Grant flies free and his spirit is glowing. TODAY we celebrate Grant's life and the sun is shining and the day is blessed. Entering the Wild is a composition of a horse thrusting forward, brilliant with color and energy! Grace to all! Laurie "There are doubtless many different kinds of sounds in the world, and nothing is without sound." 1 Corinthians 14:10.
Finally Free Horse 24 X 36 inches Oil on Canvas A Painting a Day SOLD It is early and I am heading to the easel to finish up a painting before facing the day and the arrival of out of town travelers. The hard thing yesterday was when Larry and Stacey stopped by to pick up flowers and a book I was lending them. NEVER have I seen my daughter so destroyed and my son in law so broken. They had just finished gathering up pictures and buying a navy coat and slacks for Grant to wear for the service. OH dang this is hard. My daughter is traveling a road I have not been down and I am not of much help here...this is truly not the right order of life to bury your children. What I do know is my daughter will gain strength from this and will grow. It softens her in some areas and hopefully opens her heart to the Lord's mercy in other areas. Grant is finally free and in the light of the Lord. I HAVE TO FOCUS on that or the tears begin again with the thought of all the emptiness. I am missin
Silver Moonlight Wild Horses at Night 24 x 36 inches Oil on Canvas A Painting a Day SOLD He dances in the moonlight now, my grandson Grant. He is a twinkle in the night sky and is in the heavens during the day as well...I can look up and see him day or night. I could not even begin to tell you how many times I sang the song to my grandsons about MR MOON. Mr Moon Mr Moon you're up too soon, the sun is still in the sky. Go back to bed and cover up your head and wait till the day goes by..... Not a day will go by with a prayer of thanks for his life and the gifts he left us. Stacey and Larry were given the sweetest mold of his little hand...and I almost cried out when I saw it. The last time I was in the room with him I had my fingers laced with his and then placed my fingers beneath his just to feel the weight and warm of his little hand one more time. So to see the beautiful mold Cooks Children gave them touched through my heart into my soul. My last touch, my last memory....hi
