Hope this finds you preparing for the celebration of Thanksgiving.  I know we normally spend $100-125 a week on groceries and I was surprised to spend $274 this morning.  There are Pies involved among other things, like Rachel's Famous Sweet

Because life is a world full of risk taking and possibilities. No matter how hard or easy life is; I will always find a way to enjoy myself; even in the midst of circumstances; because problems is a sense of adventure in Sheep's clothing." Temitope Owosela The richness of paint reminds me of the richness of life.  I write often of the layers in life and the layers in the life of a painting. I love scribing my name into those layers making it part of the composition in a dimensional statement.   Is t

In life you often make snap decisions.  Somet

Le Guin, The Left Hand of Darkness I have dug this progress painting out of my 2012 work... again for a collector in Australia. This is near the end but not the finished painting.  I had to bring up the intensity of the background to match the strength of the horse.   Remember this is a large painting... 42 inches tall... about 28 wide.  Nearing the end of this journey the last paint strokes are the most important. ... Sort of the salt an

We must Create it Ourselves Figurative Painting in Progress

I will post the entire painting tomorrow. It is hanging drying and things could change but my granddaughter loves it like it is.  So I do not know... if I will work on it more or not at this point.  I am using oils and loving the freedom I am achieving it on most of the canvas... just not the face.  (Insert sad smiley face)    But I hav

The Process of our Thinking. Painting in Progress Laurie Pace Texas Artist

It cannot be changed without changing our thinking.” ― Albert Einstein This is how this painting has evolved. The face is still too defined but I want to concentrate on the whole of the body of the painting. The skirt of the dress may not get much more and lots of the canvas will remain unpainted... untold... the story needs to be filled in by the viewer.  Not sure how far to play with it and not ruin the attempt. Face looks too much like a mask.  "who went ahead of you on your journey, in fire

Life is about creating yourself.” ― George Bernard Shaw Time to share a journey.. but just the basics over a few days.  It began with a drawing of my eldest granddaughter from two years ago... but I am not a figurative painter anymore... what was can no longer be and I am pushing to go a different direction and I know this painting will not reach it but it will be a stepping stone to where I need to go. Suddenly my tightness has jumped in overcharge. This may take months of painting several pieces to get where my heart is pull

You must take this journey alone. It is not far, it is in reach. Painting in Progress Laurie Pace

You must travel it by yourself.  It is not far. It is within reach. Perhaps you have been on it since you were born, and did not know.  Perhaps it is everywhere - on water and land.”  ― Walt Whitman, Leaves of Grass Here is the final overlay with medium and acrylic.  My original thoughts were a herd of buffalo on the low horizon and more sky...but the more I think about that the more I do not feel it it the right path to take for this painting. I spent time this morning going back through prior vertical pieces as th
