Pre Canvas Sketch Sailboats at Sunset, Contemporary Sailboat Painting by Texas Artist Laurie Pace

© G.O.D. Laurie Justus Pace      Graphics One Design 2013 Gift Painting for  Friend that loves Sailboats 32 x 48 inches Oil on Canvas. SOLD  SO you will watch this one from beginning sketches through the paint this week. I have a busy month in the studio but it is with three or four large paintings, so you will see the progress peppered in with anything small I do along the way. I am reserving MONDAYS each week as the 'art lesson day' to help beginners with art. Many artists out there are doing paint alongs for other artists, but some beginners are truly not really ready for paint alongs. You have to have a knowledgable foundation in art to learn the basics, train your eye and extend your knowledge so you create things that are apart of who you are and not  imitate the art of others.    This will be a palette knife painting and this one starts with a sketch on the canvas.   I use charcoal directly on the canvas and this time, no I d

Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.”  Romans 12:2 I am not sure that I have tons of people that keep up with our life.  This fall has brought its challenges to each of us and weighed us with decisions  that affect others with a domino type result.  But when I think of dominoes I think of falling down... not getting up and I pray that our decisions will create the effect of getting up and finding change that calls to new ideas and new ways to serve Him. It was taxes that drew them 'gathering' in Bethlehem.  Each man had to return to his home town for the payment of taxes. Joseph took Mary there, carefully traveling with her on a donkey as they went from Nazareth to Bethlehem. It would have taken them five to seven days to arrive there, so they were well on their way to Bethlehem on the timeline of Christmas Eve and Jesus' birth. Every one was coming 'home' to their village for the census and taxing that took place. Again though, it was a gathering, a returning home. Keep this close at heart this day... as you prepare for the 'gathering' and the return home. Click here to read

Follow me daily as the paint layers build. Gathering from the Greek word espepisunagoge . The Greek word espepisunagoge actually means "gathering together" or "a get together". When I think of advent, immediately comes the gathering of family and friends in celebration of the coming birth of Jesus; a gathering with God for the celebration of the birth of Christ. As we make each day in the last week of advent, think of things you need to gather close in heart to be in light with Him.  Prayer is at the top of my list. Prayer is a wonderful 'gathering' time. Another would be the gathering every morning and evening lighting the a

Sunset Sail Modern Palette Knife Sailboat Painting by Texas Contemporary Artist Laurie Pace

Sunset Sail Commission SOLD This was painted for one of my earliest collectors.  She wanted a brilliant sunset painting with corals, oranges, turquoise, blues, reds and every other color you could imagine.  Done with a palette knife and about 10 layers of paint, she has her sunset sail for her Florida home. Terry corrected my sails before I started on this one. Being a sailor, he is very much in tune with the jibs, mainsails etc and is always quick to correct my drawings if I am off for my sailboat paintings. 20 x 30 x 2 inches   Oil on Canvas     © Laurie Pace Graphics One Design 1998-2011   Contact Me: Laurie   Adversity  I was not sure what I wanted to write about last night but after much prayer and the completion of this painting,  I decide to write about adversity in our lives. When you sail you basically have to rely on the weather, the wind and your skills. There are not motors on our sailboats.  I know last summer I shared the story of one terrific storm t

Laurie  © Laurie Justus Pace     Graphics One Design 2009 The Painting :  This is my third small sailboat piece for the show in Dallas.  Small palette knife with big action. Note: I just finished helping the boys set up their blog... interest rates are at 4.5% for home loans... check it out! http://mortexlending.blogspot.com  The Thought :  Saying Grace ... that stuck in my head this morning.  When I was driving our daughter to school yesterday and I spotted all the different 'neighbors' out walking in the hot humid air heavy wiht moisture.  Some are older and walking slowly with a cane. Some are middle age and walking their dogs...and then there are the younger ones. These are the ones that still look fabulous in their short shorts and jogging tops and they are not walking, they are jogging. Somehow they still look unsweaty and gorgeous.  As I drove along I had that

The Painting : With Fall here and sailing days limited, I desperately try and capture the feeling on canvas to have the moment frozen in memory.  Our sails are vivid with colors but when the sun is setting and the sky is alive with those colors, they seem to weave through the sails capturing all the different hues in the sky. The Thought :  My mom sends out forwards and some are good enough I hang on to them. The one thing I do not do is chain mails...remember as a kid getting a "chain letter"?  GROAN.  After I did my second one where I painstakingly copied the letter over six times and found envelopes and addresses the
