Pairing Up - a Horse Painting filled with Spring Colors

Originally begun as a different piece, I painted over the canvas and spent two days blending back layers of oil into soft, natural transitions. After letting the surface rest and form a slight skin, I returned with charcoal and began etching into the paint, discovering the horses within the pulled color. The beauty of this painting lies in its subtle blends. There are no harsh contrasts — just gentle shifts of color that feel like early spring mornings on a hillside after winter has passed. The longer I worked, the more intentional the color contrasts became within each horse — warm against cool, light against muted tones — creating harmony rather than competition.
