The temps the last few weeks were in the 100-105 area with heat index about 10 degrees higher. We had a cool front come through which gave us a few cooler days but we are back over 100 again now.  AUGUST is here.  The painting above was painted last summer when we saw 100 plus for months in a row,  I kept things simple with a simple palette. We both reacted quickly and hit the back door with slippers forgoing our boots.  The tent had been staked firmly into the ground and been up for the past week sheltering our young peach tree from the summer burn of a week of 105 plus temps (heat index well over 110).   The tent was upside down and push into the branches of a large red oak mid yard.  The tent would have been in Waco by now if it had not been for the tree.  It took both of us wrestling the metal stand to hold it still while Terry unhooked the velcro holding the tent to the frame.  We maneuvered it the best w

I had to get back to work at the easel.  I had left over paint and I love using left over paint.  Tomorrow you will see the final of this one, just the beginning and then the end!  Yes it will be horses.  Is is a smaller size too, so it will be offered from my studio to you.  See you in the morning with a new painting! Immediately he feels he has done something wrong.  How did we get here? Does not seem like a healthy reaction, especially when I am not frowning. I have known him for 48 years of my life. I know him pretty well. You read about it. You shudder not wanting to read about almost like you want to keep your distance from it in case it is 'catching'. When my father was diagnosed with it many years ago, we embraced it as it happened as a family, but did not realize the burden our mother carried as she tried to keep things 'normal'.  She has grown a great deal since those first years as it almost cost her own life caring for him. "Epsilon" Abstract Horse Painting in Progress 30 x 40 inches Mixed Media Painting Still watching direction on this one...stay tuned for final shots in the next few days.   © Laurie Pace    Graphics One Design 1998-2011      Waiting As I work on a painting in my studio I am always waiting and watching the direction of growth as the painting develops under my brush and/or palette knife.  I wrote yesterday about "in the mind's eye".  Today I spent another three or four hours on this piece and it is evolving with the layering of all the paints and the changing of contrasting colors building on each other. There are quite a few hours yet to be to travel with this one and I will wait patiently as I paint. I am in waiting for that inner feeling that my job is complete and the painting has reached the point of 'finish'. We all seem to do a lot of 'waiting' in life. Often we are waiting on others instead of concentrating on waiting on God. Wai
