ROLL OVER RED Horse 30 x 30 inches Oil on Canvas A Painting a Day SOLD Yesterday our oldest grandson Grant took his last earthly breath and journeyed on to the brighter side accompanied by a host of angels to be embraced in the arms of our Father. I had written yesterday about rising early due to a vision of Grant and that is when I began painting. The result was ROLL OVER RED. Grant was always playful and full of joy. Just as this horse, carefree and rolling over in pleasure to scratch his back. If Grant had to be given a descriptive word, it would by JOY. His delightful innocence to the world from his autistic mind was amazing. To stop and see the world as he did, gave a new perspective to what life should be. The simple innocence that surrounded him gave pleasure to all who knew him, and they knew how easily he gave his love to them...unconditionally...wanting love and acceptance back...that is all he ever ask of any of us. I reflect back to so many moments of his little fac
Distant Colors Wild Horse 24 x 24 inches A Painting a Day SOLD It is early here and normally I am not up this early on a Tuesday. My grandson is on life support at a children's hospital in Ft Worth. Unless there is any brain activity this morning through another round of testing, he will be pulled from life support. We spent the majority of yesterday and last night at the hospital with family, and the healing power of love for all the pain was astonishing. I decided sleep was not happening despite not going to bed till almost midnight, and I know my daughter and son are already back at the ICU right now....so I will put on my IPOD as to not wake my loving husband, and take out my emotions on my canvas. My dying grandson came to me in a dream this morning around three fifteen, I think that is what startled me awake. He said, "Mum, here I am" and had this huge silly grin on his face. He was surrounded by a rich golden light. Many of you do not know what blessings he brou

HEATED PONY Wild Horse 30 x 30 inches Oil on Canvas A Painting a Day Why the heated pony? Well, my hubby came in and gesso the canvas for me...FIRST TIME, I might add. He was so cute and so capable. I will have to enlist his help again. As I approached the dried gesso and realized the talent with in as he had added impasto to it as well, the surface carried a thick sculpted look to it. The energy vibrating off was magnificent. (I had asked his help because of my pulled neck.) He stood there with my largest palette knife in his hand and had gesso and impasto from his finger tips to his elbows. I was working on another piece, but turned to see what I envisioned on the canvas. I began to attack it thinking of just large ponies but that was not to be...the ponies emerged and I shot some pictures, just to go back and add about two more layers of paint. Then I took more pictures. Still unsatisfied, I went back and began to scrap parts of the canvas ...geez there was a lot of paint there
Spring Jaunt child on horse 16 X 20 inches Oil on Canvas A Painting a Day Just a quick note...suffering from a migraine and pulled neck muscle again, but I have been in here finishing up a painting to put up on this blog! SWEET painting with brushwork and color contrast. Hope your weekend goes well.... After the Rain on the Dock Village Seascape 18 x 36 inches Oil on Canvas A Painting A Day Egads it is not even three a.m. here...but I woke with a pretty nasty sinus headache and decided it better to allow Terry to get some sleep before he has to get up at four. I am going to putter around here in the studio and work on some smaller paintings for my NY show. Last night was the opening of the FOUR BRANCH RANCH in Colleyville. Kathryn, the owner, was surrounded by friends, customers, and the entire city council! It was a marvelous evening and I visited with several other artists that have chosen to put their work in her hands. Lyndon Gaither and Ann Hardy were there. Lyndon does fabulous Acrylics and Ann is well known here in Texas for her oils. It was an honor and a treat for me to meet fellow artists. I am suppose to be in Dallas today but know at this rate I will not be...my head will probably clear up enough for me to sleep in a few hours and I will be back asleep I assure you, bu
THE MISSION Texas Landscape 3 ft by 5 ft Oil on Canvas A Painting a Day ... NOT...this one was four days. Almost finished this baby. It will live in a new office/home in Highland Park in Dallas. It was a challenge to do my style and insert it into a Texas Landscape including bluebonnets...our state flower, but NO horses or cows etc....so the Spanish Missions that dot the landscape through out our great state became the object of the commission piece. I have been overly busy with a down drive on the computer, trying to prepare for a big show tonight in Colleyville, Texas with the Four Branch Ranch....and I am behind in painting as well as regular work. Today I must prepare lessons for one of my moms that will teach the kids while I am gone...or I may just cancel class...I am debating on this one. Wish my co teacher was here...she is in Guam. Para-sailing and snorkling. ... the life! Gotta run, I am BEHIND on life and have to try and catch up slightly today. Grace to you all, I have
THE PACK Another Original Horse Horizon Painting 24 x 36 inches Oil on Canvas A Painting a Day Today is packing and shipping day and I have a list of 15 paintings to ship...so I will only get a few hours of painting in this morning. I am currently working full time on a 3 ft by 5 ft commission piece of a Spanish Mission with Texas Oak trees. Geez it took a LONG time to cover even 2/3rds of the canvas....I think I worked 12 hours yesterday on it and have several hours in from Saturday. Today's piece is another pull painting and I think definitely on of the best. The colors radiate out from this composition. Painted with impasto mixed in with the Holbein Duo Oils and two different palette knives, some of the paint is 1/3 inch thick in ridges. Have a great Monday...I am to work ...slept in a bit this morning....it is five thirty a.m.! Grace, Laurie "According to the grace of God given to me, like a skilled master builder I laid a foundation, and someone else is building on it.
IF ONLY Young Cowboy 18 x 27 inches Oil on Canvas A Painting a Day Have you ever been in competition of sorts and not won? Then you rerun the whole thing over and over in your head thinking WHAT IF?? IF ONLY???? Well that is the mainstay of this composition. We have all been there...and it is captured in this young cowboy and his faithful dog! Painted with brush and oils, it is a reflective painting. Stacey's birthday party was great yesterday...saw many of her friends I have known most of their lives and that was neat. My parents and my youngest brother and his wife, drove out to visit us first and then we went on to Stacey's for her party. Her Husband had most of the food catered in...and the cake specially made from a fabulous bakery in Dallas. She is thirty on Monday. She was my early morning child, arriving at 5 a.m.... after a night of dancing and a big steak and shrimp dinner. Off to work on a 3 by5 ft commission piece.... I started it yesterday and have it sketch
Double Orchids 16 X 20 Oil on Canvas A Painting a Day A fresh good morning at four a.m. central time! I have been up about an hour puttering around but am ready to paint, but though I would get this listed for my painting today. I finished this on Thursday this past week...it is a reflection back to the many florals I did in 2005 on eBay and was well known for my floral paintings to the point of eBay artists nominating me in the top five for florals that year. I can't help but feel a bit closer to the great creator when I paint flowers. SUCH beauty and such joy! Today is daughter's blow out birthday bash. YEAH.....the paintings from Sharman have arrived safe and sound and I finished the painting yesterday for their den...they have been in their new home almost a year and this is the first major entertaining they have taken on...she is a bit on edge preparing, but all will be fine. I even think, ( if you remember I bought her a sewing machine early birthday two weeks ago) she
THE BLUES Horses WILD horses For Larry and Stacey in celebration of Stacey's 30th birthday! 36 by 48 inches Oil on Canvas A Painting A Day Well I finished it this morning with the help of Charlene on SKYPE!!! It is traveling WET and hanging wet at my daughter's home this weekend for her big bash of celebrating 30 years on this earth. WHAT a joy!!! Grace, Laurie "Create in me a clean heart, O God, and put a new and right spirit within me." Psalm 51:10
Spring Magnolias One 2007 24 x 24 inches Oil on Canvas A Painting a Day QUICK QUICK, students are arriving. I spent the morning painting these magnolias on skype with Charlene watching part of the time. My computer crashed after that...and the morning because upsidedown... but now it is time to teach. Today we are going to look at the work of Donna Howell Sickles...most of you know her art work which was inspired by an old Texas postcard of cowgirls...I know the children will enjoy it! More later. Grace, Laurie "For the Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding." Proverbs 2:6
Lighting the Way HORSE 22 X 28 inches Oil on Canvas A Painting a Day It's Valentine's Day. I spent the morning watching a painter do a workshop and came back to earth to cook valentine's dinner for Terry and I. We ended up working in the kitchen together...Swordfish (Yes I know we should not be eating them...but once a year....) shrimp, sauteed Portabellas, new potatoes, zucchini, etc etc...and a homemade lemon meringue pie. The fish had a White port sauce we made poured over it...yummmm.... chocolate for later with our traditional exchange of valentines! I am beginning to prepare for my NY show now and have started my first painting ...these will take almost three to four days a piece...so I had to get started on them. I will not be listing near as much on ebay after this.... but will try to continue to post a painting here daily... Gotta run see my sweetie. Hug the one you love... Laurie "As the Father has loved me, so I have loved you; abide in my love."
Moon over the Village One 2007 Seascape 18 X 24 inches Oil on Canvas A Painting a Day Fun color and thick paint. I always enjoy these compositions! The paint is very thick and applied with a wide brush. Colors contrast and play against each other creating a delightful play of hues before your eyes! Today it is COLD outside...and windy. Am suppose to finish varnishing work for the FOUR BRANCH RANCH opening in Colleyville and deliver the work today. A few pieces are still wet...so I am not sure what will happen with those. Then I can concentrate on the Ohio Show the first of March, which I hope to attend with Morgan. Took my harp into Dallas yesterday to let my MOM stroke her strings...and I believe she will have Denny make her one as well. I love it. I play it for at least an hour or more a day. Gotta get to my paperwork today...so this is short and sweet. I am anxiously awaiting paintings to arrive from Sharman Owings, another member of the daily painter group. I purchased THREE
FIRST EDITION Horse 24 X 36 inches Oil on Canvas A Painting a Day Just a quick note...it is late on Monday...we have been packing and shipping...and eating and enjoying life... Another beautiful abstract modern horse inspired by the Akhal Teke. This one has four layers of paint and glorious colors! Grace and more tomorrow. Laurie "Then they were glad because they had quiet, and he brought them to their desired haven." Psalm 107:30
Into the Wild horse 18 x 36 inches Oil on Canvas A Painting A Day just a quick note...heading for bed already...was with out electricity from four this morning until after seven. I played my harp by firelight and candlelight...it was pretty cool....I did finish up this painting after the sun rose and I pulled my easel in by the fire...it was also COLD. I didn't even crank up the computer until after lunch...so it has been a down day for art production! My grandson was here for lunch and a mean game of Chinese Checkers...My favorite! More tomorrow...the above painting is six layers of oils... overlaid . It is a beauty in person! Have a great week. More tomorrow. Good night. Laurie "From ages past no one has heart, no ear has perceived, no eye has seen any God besides you who works for those who wait for him." Isaiah 64:4
DREAMS Child Roses 24 X 24 Inches Oil on Canvas A Painting a Day This painting was a three day piece and I still need to adjust shadows in the fabric of the dress. It is a donated painting to the Gillian Jones Gallery for the opening March 9-10 in Granville, Ohio. Gillian has some absolutely gorgeous work she has accumulated for this show. There is a private by invitation only show on the 9th and the public show on the 10th. Working directly with her on this project, the auction of this painting will be to raise funds for the Team Regina Fund in Granville. You can read more about this project at www.teamregina.com . If you are interested in bidding on this piece or owning it outright immediately with a generous donation to the fund, you may contact Gillian at the Gallery . The story and spirit behind the painting is based on the joy of all children dreaming about what they will be when they grow up and what their lives will be like. We all think of homes, families, jobs and grow
Longhorn One 2007 Texas Longhorn Steer 22 X 28 inches Oil on Canvas A Painting A Day Good morning! It is 4:33 a.m. Was sorta glad to wake up this morning from a mini nightmare about moving in to this older home that needed repairs and found out Three families were going to live there. EEEK. Don't even want to know what that interprets to! I was reading my book last night as Terry flipped on early news at nine. I was totally taken in surprise by the death of Anna Nicole Smith. She is NOT a personality I ever kept up with, but with all the hubbub of the birth of her daughter, death of her son and now her own death. Terry and were shaken a bit in disbelief and then realized we needed to hold each other a little bit tighter and know all of our days are numbered by the Lord and each day we are here on earth in this journey and we need to make this day count...not yesterday or tomorrow but TODAY. The longhorn above was finished up yesterday. He has a brother that is larger going to t
LONGHORN PRIDE 18 x 36 inches Oil on Canvas A Painting a Day The Longhorns are done...I had started them last week and finished them up yesterday along with some Wolves in the snow...two more Horizon Animal Palette Knife Painting. This is a detail close up of how the knife works with the paint. I started doing these animal horizon knife paintings last summer. ( Wolves, horses, buffalo, longhorns, horses, elk etc) They are quite unique and my work is well recognized. It is the basic principle of a horizon and animals running toward you with stragglers behind. It was brought to my attention by one of my buyers that another artist is doing something similar. I check on it, but it is not the same, it is with a free brush. It is always quite a compliment to have work emulated by another artist. I know Diane Whitehead is challenged with this often and that speaks volumes about her free style of paint and how talented she is. Another artist I see copied often too is Marian Rose out o
GIRL and GOATS 18 x 27 inches Oil on Canvas A Painting A Day Last year I had a small series of Girl and Goat which was hugely received and the four I painted in the series did well in sales. I was sketching in bed the other night and decided to do one more with several goats and not just one. In the original series this same little girl is dressed as she is here and she has one black goat...her best friend. But I had the vision of her walking through the field with MANY goats...resulting in this precious piece. It is painted with a wide brush and thick Holbein Duo Oils. Today it is early. Seems like I just did yesterday's blog and I did just do it at seven last night and it is almost five right now in the morning. Kay T make sure if you are reading this you read last night's for the email exchange question. Today I will be working on several new compositions of horses and cows. So I am off to the canvas. I wanted to play the harp this morning, but decided my eyes were not
Cowboy and Horse 24 x 36 inches Oil on Canvas A Painting A Day This painting does not have a name yet and is not quite done but I am preparing it for the opening of the FOUR BRANCH RANCH which I have been mentioning on prior days! I painted several small 6 x 6 inch ones this morning for it as well. This is thick paint with impasto added and wide brushes. Kay T... not sure I have your email address because my computer crashed too and I am on hubbies HP. You can email me at Pace52@aol.com though. I pick up mail there daily! Then I will have yours back too! It is late...I am painting canvas edges tonight so I can hit it running in the morning. On the agenda for the week are some reiners and cowboys/girls, some more wild horses and Exploring a new breed.... Akhal Tekes. GORGEOUS horses. I am going to do a few practice paintings which I have already promised to the buyer that recommended I look at these horses...so we will see! Tomorrow Trina will be here to paint, and I have a new pi
Color Five Horse Two HORSES 24 X 24 inches Oil on Canvas A Painting a Day Good Monday Morning! I spent the last two days busting my poor arm on this computer trying to fix the files for the book I sent out the link to! My FIRST edition of horses. Click on the word BOOK to link to it! I struggled after building it in PUBLISHER and then realizing I could not convert it, rebuilding it in Adobe Illustrator and then trying to find a program to combine the PDFs I built in Adobe. I did find a super program SONIC that did everything flawlessly taking it straight from Publisher, but it did not like my big files of pictures, especially 64 of them! But it would work for most people and the support there was over the top in professionalism and honesty. Canadian Company too...wonderful folks! BUT the book is available now and I am praying it worked correctly. You might wait three weeks and let me get my first copy!...then order. I jumped the gun, but I was so excited! This painting, Colo
BUNNIES UNDER THE DECK 15 X 30 inches Oil on Canvas A Painting A Day GOOD EARLY SUNDAY MORNING! THIS IS THE DAY THAT THE LORD HATH MADE, LET US REJOICE AND BE GLAD IN IT! Ya know when the kids were growing up, Morgan, the youngest ~ also the other artist~ use sing THIS IS THE DAY...THIS IS THE DAY.... twenty four seven. I can still conjure up images of him at age two belting this song out as he woke for the day, during breakfast, after breakfast out in the backyard, at lunch...we heard it all day! I offer up my memory and my smiles! Bunnies under the deck...this is where I miss having young children around. There is something living under our deck in all this freezing cold weather. Of course the vet thinks it might be a possum...but we have seen bunnies flitting from under the deck across the back yard (an acre) scurrying under the shed where the lawn equipment is kept. The dogs are tearing after them on fire. I laughed watching those poor bunnies run run run from these goofy Kerri
Kelly's Light Horses 30 X 40 inches Oil on Canvas A Painting A Day Well, this one was not painted in a day, or even two days...took a bit longer. It was a quieter painting, painted with a wide brush and not much action. I hung it up in the dining room to study it for a few days...something was not right... it was LOVELY but nothing more. I sent it out to Charlene and Kelly to look at and give me honest feedback...Charlene pointed out some technical issues but Kelly sent a hot email back...basically saying, This is not YOU! Kelly reminded me exactly of what I preach about to my students about all the time. THE PAINTING WILL NOT WORK IF YOU GET IN THE WAY trying to control it. I was doing that. I technically had painted a lovely painting but it did NOT soar with life. Trusting in Kelly, I picked up my palette and squirted about 12 different colors on in large clumps. I added some impasto...(How I would live with out that I am not sure) and took my knife in hand. This is the r
Andalucian Stallion HORSE 24 X 30 inches Oil on Canvas A Painting a Day OH MY>... we have at least 3 inches or more of snow outside....we were up at four to let the dogs out as I made Terry's breakfast and there is snow thickly covering everything. The hood of his truck has more like six inches.... it is amazing since we rarely get snow. I will try to get out for pictures later!!! Annie the dog is doing better...we couldn't feed her until this morning...and I just fed her. I pray that her tummy and intestines are better because I do not want to spend my day cleaning up after her! She was so sad yesterday wanting to eat and I felt like a bad mother eating in front of her! This painting was completed yesterday. it is pretty wet. It was interesting to paint as it developed I truly was working on balance color etc. I always paint away and as I finish things up begin moving paint on the composition to different areas for contrast. I use the palette knife and pick up color from
IN TUNE Guitar 30 X 30 Oil on Canvas A Painting a Day Commission Piece This is a unique commission piece for a couple in NYC. I was THRILLED to be honored to paint this for their home. Smooth thick paint and brilliant colors create this musical composition. I hope they enjoy it...I think I told you before when I paint, I often meditate and pray about the home where the painting is going to. Often I have no clue when painting for eBay, but I do when painting commission pieces. I have learned over the years of painting, NOT to get in the way of the spirit that must travel onto the canvas. Often The artist gets in the way, again reminding me of Iris' words, EGO edging God out. Same on the canvas... when I try and control...the painting never works as well. The guitar was a delight...itunes playing on my computer with a mixture of music and I literally danced around the canvas as I worked. Today is cold. Yesterday was Liberty's first day to help with the computer and I can h
