Nine on the Run Wild Horses 18x36 inches Oil on Canvas A Painting A Day Well is later today, and theres a bit of ice and snow outside. I've been working on more koi and bunny rabbits and I finished this horse painting yesterday. Working with my pallette knife and rich buttery oils another wild horse painting was created. Watch for it soon on Ebay . Terry and I had fun in Dallas yesterday. He took me shopping for a new winter coat and summer clothes for my summer art shows. We ate lunch at Main Stream and did our shopping at Whole Foods, and getting home around 8pm. We visited Denise and Pam at FedEx.... and although I only had a few boxes to ship out..We stayed for an hour! Stay warm. Grace Laurie “Then they said to him, ‘Inquire of God that we may know whether the mission we are undertaking will succeed.’ The priest replied, ‘Go in peace. The mission you are on is under the eye of the Lord.’”—Judges 18:5-6
Alike Minds HORSES 24 x 24 inches Oil on Canvas A Painting a Day DYNAMITE BRIGHT colors in this Valentine's painting of two horses, obviously in love! My Palette was greens, reds, golds and blues, with accents of purple. This would be an eye catcher in any room! Today is Tuesday and suppose to be VERY COLD with COLD and WET tomorrow...maybe Ice..but I do not think snow. We are heading into town later to visit FED EX...stop by the USPS and on to the wilds of Dallas and traffic. There we will visit Whole Foods and TJ Fish Market for our weekly rations. I have been reading the book THINK THIN BE THIN...and ya know what...it is helping. I am not huge but would like to drop one size back down to fit in my clothes. Christmas did me in. Heard today my HARP is on her way. I will not name her until she arrives and I hear her voice...but I am darn excited now. I wrote Denny and ask him if there was a tracking number so I could keep up with her on the trip. ALSO how long...by boat or p
Reflections Koi One 18 X 36 inches Oil on Canvas A Painting a Day Monday Monday...still can't type with both hands. A friend suggested Neuro Muscular Massage...so I am on a mission! Help is soon! We continue to gather bids for the renovation of this house and the addition of STUDIO space! YEAH.... meanwhile I paint in my little room! This unique painting is the first of many with this application. I had a dream last week about it and started it on Friday...Finished it up on Saturday...and listed it on eBay on Sunday. I wanted a KOI painting that was more low key and mood setting to calm cool colors and when Terry walked in and said WOW...I knew I had succeeded with my dream. I am sure it will evolve more as it goes as well with the next one. I used several palette knives as well as Impasto mixed with the paint to give it thickness. I am also excited to welcome Liberty to the studio...she is a young woman that I have known for almost ten years now...and she will be helping wi
RED HORSES Oil on Canvas 18 x 27 inches A Painting A Day Good Sunday Morning! I am up. Just painfully finished my newletter for eBay going out to my Horse watchers...was introducing Anthony Gonzalez ...wow is he good. He is a hugely collected "Master" of the old style and is only offering small pieces on ebay. Check it out and drool! I have already bid on one! I have quite a few artists in my home, Diane Whitehead ARTOUTWEST Conni Togel Mary Jo Zorad Debra Hurd Maybe I will be lucky and get a Gonzalez painting this week! Meanwhile I am in preparation for an upcoming show opening with the Gillian Jones Gallery in Ohio in March. Finishing up work this next week. Had to bring in help too! I have a younger artist that is going to work with me on the computer stuff etc...with my arm out of commission, typing one hand is not NOT fun. I usually type 125 words a minute and this is entirely too frustrating. I just finished up a commission piece going to New York, a huge guitar.
Butterscotch Horse 24 x 24 inches Oil on Canvas A Painting a Day Good Morning ...it is Saturday...I have injured my rotator cuff... so I am limited on typing on the computer among other things. FORTUNATELY...I can still paint...no guitar though for awhile. This is a palette knife composition I finished yesterday...creamy butterscotch in color, hence the name! Grace to you all...which I could share more...we did go out to eat last night at the fabulous Mexican Restaurant in Pilot Point TEXAS...yummmmm. Today is my youngest son's birthday, Morgan Pace. He is an artist and musician as well. Happy birthday to him...and to me, I was there. He was born at five minutes after lunch time. Laurie “You have made known to me the ways of life; you will make me full of gladness with your presence.” —Acts 2:28
EXTENSION OF LOVE Horses 22 x 28 inches Oil on Canvas A Painting a Day click here to bid I have pulled a muscle somewhere in my left arm and am limited today on actions and typing! hubby tied me into a sling to keep me from using it. I have been nursing problems with this arm since Sept but really did something to twist it yesterday. Meanwhile this painting was another joy as it evolved. No preconception as to composition, it emerged as I began to paint. I love when it does that! Thick paint as always with my palette knife. more to come. I am adding help at the studio next week, a young artist/woman who will also be helping with classes, eBay listings etc etc etc. Maybe I can get my arm fixed! grace laurie “No one sews a piece of unshrunk cloth on an old cloak, for the patch pulls away from the cloak, and a worse tear is made. Neither is new wine put into old wineskins; otherwise, the skins burst, and the wine is spilled.”—Matthew 9:16-17
A Dozen Roses Modern Impressionistic Roses 24 X 24 inches Oil on Canvas A Painting a Day It is afternoon....here in Texas and it is starting to warm up a tiny bit, at least into the fifties. We might see Sixties tomorrow...yes..but the weather man muttered something about the MCFARLAND syndrome....and that means COLD AIR and SNOW and ICE...coming soon to a town near you if you live in north Texas. This is welcome welcome welcome...to have a real winter...might cut down on our bug population too! Painted this morning and these roses appeared on canvas...perhaps with thoughts of Valentines. I put my order in for some more perfume...I am out. Hope he takes the hint of the empty perfume bottle on his sink with a note...EMPTY...20 days until Valentine's Day. Don't forget your valentine! You can buy these roses and have flowers year round...gee what more could a husband want??? They will post on eBay next week, but are available now if you contact me! The paint is hugely thick..
Nine on the Horizon Wild Horses 18 X 36 inches Oil on Canvas A Painting A Day Good Wednesday Morning. This is a painting I did last weekend and it is currently up on auction on ebay already. I haven't painted in a few days...and eager to get to the canvas this morning. SO this note it short! The painting above is another palette knife pull where I carve the horses literally out of the paint. It is spiritual as it happens and I truly hope it brings that sense into the home it arrives at! Have a great Wednesday. Laurie “So I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.”—Mark 11:24
SPIRIT OF FIVE WILD HORSES 30 x 30 inches Oil on Canvas A Painting A Day It is huge on the wall in my studio and the vibrant reds jump across the room.... I know it will find its way into the heart of a home and be a loved painting! THICK edges and ridges of oil bring motion into the paint. Today is Tuesday..Tomorrow I will be knee deep in paint! Up by four a.m... I will be pushing paint before most of you even open your eyes. I did finally catch up with Sue Sunday night..yeah, hadn't visited in two weeks. I miss you SUE!!! I know there will be quite a few paintings arriving at homes across the United States and Canada this week. I mailed out 18 packages on Monday...whew...that was a large order...but Terry hung in there with Diane Whitehead's husband GREAT invention...the BOXALOT and it has been a huge help with shipping. MUCH easier to handle too! KUDOS to Andy Whitehead...contact Diane if you want to try one! I recommend them! Gotta run, Pizza was just delivered and th
A Path through the Garden 16 x 20 inches Oil on Canvas A Painting a Day GOOOD morning. I slept in....I am usually up at four and it is just after six! Today is packing and shipping but I may sneak in a small painting this morning, but I am working on a commission piece for a collector in TN. ALSO am praying and contemplating a donation piece for a fund raiser for a breast cancer victim, battling two different kinds of cancer raging in her body. I know at one point I will pick up my brush and I will paint from my heart through the power of the spirit. The painting above is thick and absolutely gorgeous with color. Inspired by a book on Gardens in Europe... I hope to do more in a similar manner. Have a great Monday and plan for an even better week! Sue, THANK you for our visit last night, it was a joy. An added note after reading my inspirational verses this morning. Roxanne from Daily Painters had added a comment to one of my paintings that it was neat to find other artists that we
INQUISITIVE SPIRIT Horse 18 X 36 inches Oil on Canvas A Painting A Day REDS and more reds are the beauty of this composition. I could not capture a decent picture of it with the rainy days here and no place to set up my camera properly!!! The horse is a bit more defined here with mass evident in the placement of paint and the pulls of that paint. She is a she...and you can only tell that in person when you see her and feel the inquisitive spirit from her eyes! Today is early on Sunday, almost five a.m....and I am up to paint and do paper work. I am hoping Morgan comes out to paint this morning, but forgot to talk to him last night. Will wake him at seven and see. It is one of those days I need a list to stay on task...I have several commission pieces to be working on and my mind is wondering! Grace to you all, and have a pleasant Sunday. Laurie “Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and sustain in me a willing spirit.” —Psalm 51:12
CRAB APPLE IN BLOOM TREE 15 X 30 inches oil on canvas A Painting a Day SOLD SOLD SOLD on the daily blog! Thank you! Oh its a quick load...I am going shopping and my daughter is here.... took a break from painting this morning as I was up at one and went back to bed at five and just got up again! More later...have a great Saturday. laurie
CONTRAST SPIRIT Horse 24 X 30 inches Oil on Canvas A Painting a Day Playing with contrast yesterday I worked on this beauty...and she is gorgeous in real life. I am not sure the photo does her justice. Mixing scarlet , Alazarin Crimson and yellow I found the bright crisp burnt orange and as I began working the horse and her face I knew the background would be in turquoise, horizon blue and cobalt....further contrast occurs with mauve and lime green....it was enriching to paint and amazing to watch as the colors began to play off of each other! Today is painting again. I have sold the Iris I posted yesterday. It is hanging in my dining room right now drying out...we still have wet damp COLD weather and more ice for tomorrow. I am not accustomed to this, but we need the moisture. One nearby lake was down 19 ft from normal...and it gained 5 ft in the past week....that is how bad the drought is here. Large cities are still on water rationing in the middle of winter. Well, my paints are
Iris One 2007 Iris Blooming Flowers 30 x 30 inches oil on canvas A Painting a Day SOLD SOLD SOLD off this daily blog! Yesterday I had such joy painting this piece. I have a collector named Iris, and she has been under the weather. I had PRAISE songs playing on the computer and painted away for hours on this beauty. I had trouble getting the light correct though for the photo in the studio..we have snow on the ground, but it will melt today! This is a smooth impressionistic piece of a gorgeous iris in full bloom. More to come. I have spent the morning doing INCOME TAX stuff...ugh ugh ugh... and now I am ready to paint!!! Watch out...it is coming. Laurie “Let the heavens be glad, and let the earth rejoice, and let them say among the nations, ‘The Lord is king!’” —1 Chronicles 16:31
Full Blooms Red Poppies 30 x 30 inches Oil on Canvas A Painting a Day Good morning. It is Wednesday very early and snow is falling outside my studio window...checked the clock, it is 4:23 a.m. Terry is off to work and took my car this morning....the TDI Passat . Left me with MR. BIG DODGE TRUCK. I won't go anywhere because the back end likes to slip around in the wet and ice...so I will paint paint paint this morning. This painting...words escapes me! It is a large pot of blooming poppies painted from a picture of real red poppies in the pot. Known for their spindly stems and crimson blooms, I placed them on a contrasting background of Marigold. Traditional subject meets my palette knife...and it works. Today I am leaning toward some color and the knife and another rainy day poppy. I know I will sketch out horses as well...Wednesday is usually a good painting day because I have taken two days off out of the studio and I am eager to paint! Grace to all. Laurie “Cast your burd
Seven on the Horizon Wild Horses 18 x 36 inches Oil on Canvas A Painting A Day IT is burrr cold and icy everywhere...Yesterday was filled with too many snack foods and a bit of dreariness with the heavy clouds and icy streets! But we stayed warm and I took a break from the studio...I did not paint and that is unusual for me! This is one I finished and just listed...a palette knife pulled painting with horses emerging from the color. It is an absolute delight to hang with all the colors and movement. Your eyes never tire of finding new things in the composition! Happy Week to all as you get it underway! Packing and shipping fill the next two days for me, but I hope to hit the canvas this afternoon after my grandson leaves! Grace to you. Laurie “Let your steadfast love and your faithfulness keep me safe forever.” —Psalm 40:11
Bursting Out HORSE 24 x 30 inches Oil on Canvas A Painting a Day GOOD COLD EVENING TO ALL!!!! amidst the sleet, ice and rain.... I did paint. GLORIOUS color splashed across the canvas and emotions Burst OUT!...you can almost feel the muscles moving on this stallion! A collector saw a preview picture and has already bought this beauty so he is drying and awaiting his trip north! My grandson is here visiting and I have spent the majority of the day playing CLUE. Do you remember that game? Oh what fun. We even played some GIN and he is now playing Chess with his grandfather, THE BAMPA. Yes, he named us, and I am the MUM. He is our one and only and rather spoiled since we raised him six of his nine years here on this earth! It was a gift from God to have him apart of our family so close. After his dad moved to NYC last year, his mom took physical custody and basically has refused us the ability to see him, so when he is here it is cherished time. Funny how some folks say one thing
Poppy Morning 24 x 30 inches Oil on Canvas A Painting a Day Click here to bid. Good morning from Texas! CLOUDY SKIES....WIND out of the south blowing 45 mph...and a cold front trying to push through....it really gets my bio system flipping around! I will be painting in the studio this morning and cleaning house and doing wash! This smooth creamy composition was completed in studio yesterday. It is from the angle of falling asleep in a field of poppies and what you might see as you wake up! Light filtering in between the tall blooms on their spindling stems...thick and lush! Have a safe weekend.... Justin is in from NYC and will be moving back to Texas the end of January. He and Morgan are apt hunting. ( I do not think this is a good idea...they couldn't live in peace as children, not sure what they are thinking as adults) We get to see our grandson Jonathan this weekend as well and I am DOUBLY excited about that! Grace to each of you, Laurie “Our heart is glad in him, because w
SPRING WALK OSWOA 6 X 4 Watercolor A Painting a Day Memories of my husband and I when we were young! I have known him most of my life. A simple watercolor done in the OSWOA size with a quick sketch and addition of fast color to keep it all fresh. Grace to all, Laurie “And these are the ones sown on the good soil: they hear the word and accept it and bear fruit, thirty and sixty and a hundredfold.”—Mark 4:20
Molly the Horse OSWOA 6 x 4 inch Watercolor A Painting a Day End of day and worn out...more conversation tomorrow... This is Molly the horse down the street! Perfect model for OSWOA painting. grace, Laurie
Early Spring Snow 18 x 27 inches Oil on Canvas A Painting a Day What a joy to paint this piece! It speaks of that time between spring and winter...where the earth seems not to be in balance, but only to our human lives...not to mother earth. This piece captures horses in motion with snow on the ground partially melted and a bit of blue sky hinting of the turning weather. Grace to you all...today is Monday and Packing day! Laurie “For as the earth brings forth its shoots, and as a garden causes what is sown in it to spring up, so the Lord God will cause righteousness and praise to spring up before all the nations.” —Isaiah 61:11
Gathering Flowers at the Sea Shore 8 x 10 inches Oil on Board A Painting a Day Just a hurried note. We drove to Gainesville this afternoon and visited a beautiful old home built in 1896. Was very impressed by the hard work that had restored this home to such a nice state. I painted early this morning, and son Morgan was over painting as well. Tomorrow is packing and shipping for my work to be mailed. This painting is an oil on board...very whimsical and impromptu and definitely a painting a day. Grace, Laurie
Crossing Over Horses Oil on Canvas 22 x 28 inches A Painting a Day Good Saturday Morning! Our weird Texas weather continues HOT and COLD all in one day yesterday...mostly cold though, but I fear this leaves the major populous in the schools and work places closer to the flu. This painting plays with contrast of midline values. I believe the next one I will work with a similar pull and add a bit more of a contrast in with a complimentary diagonal. Again I mixed Impasto with the paint. The Holbein oils are very rich and creamy and adding the impasto to this creates an exciting thickness which reminds me of icing cakes! Kelly Williams, a collector from Dallas, that purchased Celebrating Life before it went to auction, came by yesterday to pick up the work and was again astonished (his second piece) by the piece in person. Evidently the photographs of my work cannot seem to capture the thick paint and the edging that occurs, the surfaces that build around bone structure in the faces or t
Pushing On HORSES 24 X 24 inches Oil on Canvas A Painting a Day Good morning from the studio...FOG is very thick outside. BUT I am painting inside. This one is on auction this week. I painted it last weekend. Three horses on their journey are captured in a split second of light flashing through the woods they travel. Yesterday in art class we began a four week study of telling stories through painting and work. We looked at works of Monet, Cezanne, Renoir, Donna Howell Sickles, Morgan Weistling and a few others, and from each piece we investigated the story the painting was telling. We discussed how some pieces leave blanks in the story that your eye and your imagination has to fill in and some give you every detail you could imagine capturing your mind to look further for more. They then used pastel on paper and created a story about SPRING. We covered words for spring, things they do in the spring, holidays in the spring, and colors associated with spring. Outcome was thunderst
Gathering Three Two Commission Painting Horses 30 X 40 inches Oil on Canvas A Painting a Day This painting will live in Florida with Gathering Three. It is entitled Gathering Tree Two because of the desire of the collector to have a second painting to hang in the room with the first one! Raining here, yeah....and my classes start back today. It is always exciting planning all the new lessons for the semester for the students. We will study many current day artists this semester with many of our projects. Grace to all!!!! Laurie “I pray that, according to the riches of his glory, he may grant that you may be strengthened in your inner being.”—Ephesians 3:16
COLORS TWO HORSES THREE Horses 22 x 28 inches Oil on Canvas A Painting a Day The joy in painting is truly expressed in this unique trio of horses. Part of my COLOR series, one can be lost in the creamy blends of hues through out this painting. Don't know about you guys, but I am knee deep in files and bookkeeping preparing my 'STUFF" for taxes! UGH...meanwhile painting brings a smile to my face and buries the work behind me! Terry fixed my broken file cabinet last night so I feel like I can function again! YEAH! Take care and stay warm! Grace, Laurie OHHH . Daily Word was truly a good reading this morning so I have to share it all!!! Daily Word — Wednesday, January 3, 2007 Nonresistance Trusting in God, I am blessed throughout my journey of life. Ricky and Lucy Scottish Terriers Commission Painting 22 X 28 inches Oil on Canvas A Painting a Day Just finished this lovely piece of two beautiful Scotties! I continue to do dogs for Scottie Kingdom Rescue in the Dallas area. They rescue dogs from several states but are located in east Dallas. My family has a long history with lots of love and dogs attached to the Dallas Scottish Terrier Club and they use a logo I designed when I was in high school! Hope your new year is going great already! Grace, Laurie
Celebrating Life Horse 30 x 30 inches Oil on Canvas A Painting A Day HAPPY NEW YEAR SOLD 1/02/2007 Grace, Laurie Daily Word — Monday, January 1, 2007 My Year This new year marks a fresh start for me. I begin this new year realizing that nothing can separate me from God’s presence in this moment or at any other time. The presence of God is within me always. Working with this holy presence, I cocreate my life in fresh, new ways. In contemplative prayer, I honor my past and its lessons and I release negative feelings and attitudes based on the past. I take action this day, this year, to change habits or practices that do not serve me, knowing that God’s spirit expressing through me is greater than any habit. I trust God within to guide me in cocreation, to inspire me with new ways of thinking, acting, and speaking. This awareness ensures that, in every needed way, the new year marks a fresh start for me. “Isaac sowed seed in that land, and in the same year reaped a
