The Usual Suspects, Contemporary Wolf Painting by Texas Artist Laurie Pace

© G.O.D. Laurie Justus Pace      Graphics One Design 2014 The Usual Suspects 32 x 48 inches Oil on Canvas.  Available at Mirada Fine Art.  I really need to get a better image so I may have to post this one  again later this week with the finished touches of color. This is 90% done.  This is where it hangs around and I study and observe changes I want to make or colors I want to add. Heavy Holbein Oils and my favorite palette knife created this contemporary Wolf Painting, The Usual Suspects.  I know I am getting somewhere when Terry walks in and ponders the painting.  Even more important when Paddy walks in and his ears go back and he growls.  I think he has been watching too much TV. I keep telling him Walking is healthier than TV.   There is no speech nor language, where their voice is not heard.  Psalm 19:3 Laurie Pace A Texas Artist   M...

The Usual Suspects, Contemporary Wolf Painting by Texas Artist Laurie Pace

© G.O.D. Laurie Justus Pace      Graphics One Design 2014 The Usual Suspects 32 x 48 inches Oil on Canvas.  Available through Mirada Fine Art. It seems so dark with all the cold cloudy skies. I have wonderful lighting in the studio to paint by but it never results in good images with the camera. Most of my photography of work is done in natural day light to keep glare off the final image.  The wolves are progressing and I am delighted to paint one this large. It is the largest I have done to date. I am also excited it will be the first horizon wolf painting going to Mirada, where they have sold many of my single wolves over the past three years.  I will keep working on this today and have a pretty good shot of it tomorrow. I have been trying not to trip over Paddy Dog. He is my husband's Kerry Blue Terrier.  He is nine this month.  He is so lost without Annie Dog and he is not good under my...

Wolves on the Prowl Beginning Sketches, wolf painting by Texas Artist Laurie Pace

© G.O.D. Laurie Justus Pace      Graphics One Design 2014 Wolves on the Prowl  32x 48 inches Oil on Canvas.  Wolves on the prowl... for a new painting heading to Mirada Fine Art. Normally on these paintings I pull the oil paints and then find the wolves. With the size of this painting I wanted to make sure I had the balance to the size and composition. It is sometimes hard when you are so close to the painting you cannot step back and keep a distance from it to really see it.  This way I will keep my balance as I begin to pull the paint.  This week has been incredibly cold.  Terry set up an extra space heater in my studio...and I like it over 65 degrees... do you have trouble working when you are cold?   I like my music going, the temp up to 68 and of course lots of light.  I have three easels set up in the studio area and one large work table. Let me know if you want to see mor...

Morning Hunt, Contemporary Wolf Paintings by Texas Artist Laurie Pace

© G.O.D. Laurie Justus Pace      Graphics One Design 2014 Morning Hunt 30 x 40 inches Oil on Canvas.  Available through Mirada Fine Art  Contact Steve here. Wolves I do not paint often but this week I will be doing one more of my horizon wolves for Mirada as well.  I am allowing this contemporary wolf painting to HANG around as I make changes and update it here and there.  He has so many layers I lost count. The paint will literally take weeks to cure to ship to Steve at Mirada Fine Art, but that is where it is committed to as of this day. I am posting it early but it will not have too many more additions to it. So much of my art is missed in these two dimensional images as the knifed paint has ridges and thickness like buttery icing on the canvas. It is something to experience in person. "The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid; and the c...

Lone Wolf Saga Painting continues... by Texas Artist Laurie Pace

© G.O.D. Laurie Justus Pace      Graphics One Design 2014 Lone Wolf Continues 24 x 36 Mixed Media I am really dragging my feet now. Wolf has become too predictable.  He has also lost the fresh impressionistic presence he had before. Now he is sharper and more defined.  Good or bad, that is where I am right now.  I will sleep on him overnight and will see what my eye sees tomorrow. Terry's Dad always said that if something was good today, it would be good tomorrow.  I always think of it as timing. If I sleep on it overnight, it gives God a chance to work through me while I am resting and praying over it.  Do we get too defined in life? Are we too sharp and controlling? How do we get back to simplicity and enjoying the small things in life?  How do we walk away from all the media, the TV and the computers?    Back away, take a break. It will all be there tomorrow. We must wait upon ...

Lone Wolf Progressive Wolf Paintings by Texas Artist Laurie Pace

Lone Wolf Progress Painting 24 x 36 Mixed Media  Well I messed up before I started but it always works if I just move forward. Usually I would coat the canvas with some basic acrylic and then begin collaging the pages on the canvas creating a pattern as I go.  © G.O.D. Laurie Justus Pace      Graphics One Design 2014   Next I began working with the colors creating the surface on the canvas to explore and find shapes and patterns growing before my eyes.  As you can see below the colors are beginning to take form and shape.  The colors are not the final in anyway, they are the builders to the background and I will work forward. Watch for more tomorrow. Each day offers up new opportunities to us and places in life for discovery of who we are and what we are as a person.   French novelist and philosopher Albert Camus once wrote, “Freedom is no...

Blue Moon Wolf Contemporary Wolf Painting by Texas Artist Laurie Pace

© G.O.D. Laurie Justus Pace      Graphics One Design 2013 Blue Moon Wolf  16 x 16 inches Oil on Canvas.  I am pretty close to done. It is hanging around and I see maybe a sweep of gold in one other spot, but I feel satisfied that I captured what I was feeling in my mind and heart. Allowing His spirit to work through me again as I did this past weekend with Water's Edge.  God is our refuge and strength,     an ever-present help in trouble.
