We all have darkness.  With Advent opening this day with the Christian calendar, this seemed like the best place to start as you light your first Advent candle.  Let is symbolize our longings, our desires and our hopes. Renewal in our lives is an important pa

All you succeed in doing is making music, the noise of failure growing beautiful.” ― Bill Holm The busy time of year is upon us. Thanksgiving turkey is just about gone. Families have returned to their homes and the decorating for Christmas fills our homes with holiday colors.  The Aspens were really last month, but I painted these and enjoyed the color with every stroke of my palette knife. The ending of fall and the welcoming of winter is here.   As we have gotten older the

How Would You Use Them?

Purkiser Giving Thanks. Do You Remember When?   Families ate dinner together at the table every night?   Families went to church together several times a week?   When going out to eat was something special to look forward too?   When you put puzzles together as a family? When TV dinners were a treat that mom would buy at the store for you when she and dad were going out to eat?   When singing together around the piano as a family was still considered fun?

Leaves and Meditation on the Pond...

Most of the trees are baring up for the winter with few stragglers hanging on. It is a carpet of color outside our door.   Fall leaves little doubt (Pardon the pun) of God's creative side.  These changes are purposely planned to bring the beauty to our conscious thoughts.  Our thoughts drift like these leaves ... gently to the ground. We can choose to focus on words or phrases that bring us a peace and connect us to his great awareness.  Time to tr

Be Grateful...

This time of year can be very happy and in the next moment change can occur to make i

Perhaps the absurdity of materialism? Sometimes being alone is more luxurious than sharing space on a velvet cushion. What do you think about the quote?  Here it is in context:    "It is the luxurious and dissipated who set the fashions which the herd so diligently follow. The traveller who stops at the best houses, so called, soon discovers this, for the publicans presume him to

Part of you died each year when the leaves fell from the trees and their branches were bare against the wind and the cold, wintery light. But you knew there would always be the spring, as you knew the river would flow again after it was frozen. When the cold rains kept on and killed the spring, it was as though a young person died for no reason.” ― Ernest Hemingway, A Moveable Feast It is not time for New Years and resolutions... especially the ones we do not keep. But we are able to think about the things we could positiv
