Click the painting to view it.  Immersed — Layer Upon Layer “Adam named his wife Eve, because she would become the mother of all the living.” — Genesis 3:20 I thought she was finished. Then I took one more chance. I didn't want to repaint the garden of color that had grown around her, so I rolled a transparent veil across portions of the canvas with a brayer. What was underneath remained. Some marks were easy to see. Others became quieter. Some nearly disappeared. And suddenly I realized how much that resembles us. We are layer upon layer, generation upon generation. The woman who emerged on my canvas no longer looked exactly like the woman in the old photograph where I began. Her face changed. Her hair changed. Everything around her changed. But she held her gaze. She marked that canvas, and the journey came forward. I began t...

© Laurie Pace        Graphics One Design 2026 Painting In process Oil on Canvas  SOLD   by Laurie Pace   “He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end.” – Ecclesiastes 3:11 Finding Her in the Paint I began with an older black-and-white photograph. Follow the photograph.    My heart kept saying, COLOR. I didn't want to bur...

Melinda’s gift was not just teaching technique so much as encouraging us to push past habit. She asked us to loosen control, take risks, and wander into unfamiliar territory. Magic appeared in unexpected ways. © Laurie Pace        Graphics One Design 2026 At one point she asked us to explore cartoon-like characters.   That word — cartoon — did not sit comfortably with me. I was trained as a fashion illustrator. My work has always leaned toward structure, refinement, and intention. “Cartoon” felt foreign, almost dismissive of the language I knew so well. I tried once. I failed. Then I tried again — and Mr. Man appeared. He arrived without a plan. I wa...
