"The Great Race" Equine Horse Oil Painting by Laurie Justus Pace

'The Great Race' 18 x 24 inches Oil on Canvas SOLD Thank you! Contact me to purchase: Laurie © Laurie Justus Pace Graphics One Design 2009 " Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God ." Philippians 4:6 The Painting : Taking off on a different road with this one. The horses are more defined for space; the action is in the movement of line and counter lines playing angles against each other. Colors are always vivid. The Thought : Planning ahead. Is it the Great Race? In the remodeling of this house we definitely should have had a better plan and kept a better schedule. Planning ahead I should have never lined up cable or internet until we were done. This morning I began to wake and lifted one eyelid and saw it was light in the room. Terry is on a different schedule and I knew he had to be up. My eyes flew open to the alarm clock and it was only 4 am. I realized then t

"Mums" 18 x 24 inches Oil on Canvas SOLD! THank you! Contact me to purchase: Laurie © Laurie Justus Pace Graphics One Design 2009 " You then, my child, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. " 2 Timothy 2:1 The Painting: This is a second painting I was working on when Barbie was visiting. I finished it up yesterday. It began with a bottom layout in acrylic for value placement. From this point there are layers of oils piled on top using a wide brush. The Thought: Not sure of what it is, but I have been "down" for two days straight. Hopefully today will be better. Anytime I ate or drank water it felt like a tightening in my stomach, like an old fashioned tummy ache. Did not get to go visit our best friends in Mt Vernon yesterday...so I am a bit sad. Hopefully today I can eat again. Terry continues to rip out the bathroom in our bedroom. The shower is completely torn out and tonight I think he intends to pull out the toilet and the

"Reflections in the Wind" 24 x 36 inches Acrylic on Canvas SOLD Contact me to purchase: Laurie © Laurie Justus Pace Graphics One Design 2009 “ For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me will find it .”- Matthew 16:25 The Painting: I worked on this one while Barbie was here painting with me in the studio. It began with two soft layers of Indian Yellow with some dripping. Then the sketching out of the horse and the strength seem to spread across the composition before I realized it. It is one of those paintings it is hard to walk away from. The Thought : When we woke up this morning it felt good to have known I slept all night. It was such a small thing, but yesterday I was outside waiting for mom and the head construction crew man stopped to chat with me on the building next door. He was proud of his men and the job they were doing. I could not fault that in any way and complimented him on their ability to work together so s

"Best Friends" Dog Art Oil Painting by Laurie Pace

"Best Friends" 8 x 10 inches Oil on Linen Panel SOLD Contact me for Commissions...this was one: Laurie © Laurie Justus Pace Graphics One Design 2009 " He said 'Do not fear, greatly beloved, you are safe. Be strong and courageous!' When he spoke to me, I was strengthened and said, 'Let my Lord speak, for you have strengthened me. '" Daniel 10:19 The Painting: A commission painting of two dogs, in the later years for a special lady...a gift from a special man in her life. The Thought: When I think of dogs many things goes through my head. They are a member of our family, they are always there giving love and companionship and they are protectors. When you are in their presence, they are there for you 100 percent. God is that way too. Old and corny I know, but GOD spelled backwards is dog. God is with you all the time. God is your protector all the time. Be secure in the knowledge that He has your front and your back sides at all times.

"Visions" 18 x 24 x 2 inches Acrylic on Canvas Contact me to purchase: Laurie © Laurie Justus Pace Graphics One Design 2009 " Moses was one hundred twenty years old when he died; his sight was unimpaired and his vigor had not abated ." Deuteronomy 34:7 The Painting: I still have to finish up the eyes a bit...but I am almost finished. This is a good six layers of paint of more and three days of painting on and off. Even though it is small, it is well worked over. Staying with Acrylics for some reason, I am exploring the depth of what I can do with them. I think today I will play with watercolor layers and acrylic. The Thought: IT'S FRIDAY! Do you get energized on Friday or relaxed for the weekend? For our family it is the middle of the week because of Terry's Airline schedule and work. Our weekend is not until Mon/Tues. It seems for most 9-5 work people, or stay at home moms, there is a Friday sense of relief or anticipation of the weekend.

"Wild Flowers" Equine Horse Art Painting by Laurie Pace

"Wild Flowers" 30 x 30 inches Acrylic on Canvas SOLD Thank you! Contact me to purchase. Laurie © Laurie Justus Pace Graphics One Design 2009 " They met together to go and console and comfort him." Job 2:11 The Painting: This is all acrylic. I started with a charcoal sketch of the horses and then I began to see shadows and colors. Cross Hatching the palette knife gave it a woven feeling and that is where I saw the flowers...wild flowers. The Thought: Almost late for the day for me...busy catching up on email... Reflecting on the bible verse above... and tying it into the painting is always a start for me. Where do you go or what do you seek when you are sad or in need? Sometimes a good walk will clear your head enough that you can get your brain back in balance. We all need comfort in our lives. It is this part of living that happens to all of us, the feeling let down by someone or something in your life... the feeling that you want to run away or hide

" Psalm 25:5 Painting: Yes, this is one from 2005. I was into studying values. The Thought: I promise this is not from 2005. Last night I had my first 'Peeping Toms'. Yes, you read correctly. I have mentioned our neighbors building a second story and two of the windows have a wonderful view STRAIGHT into our bedroom. I was assured that none of the kids would be in this area and not to worry. Well, there we were and there they were... staring in straight at us. This window they are seeing us through is a second story window in our home (Our bedroom has very high ceilings and our window is a lower window about 4 ft wide and 7 ft tall and above that a window about 4 ft wide and maybe 4 ft tall. For he thought, 'There will be peace and security in my days. '" Isaiah 39:8 The Painting: I am only doing about three to four paintings a week now. Some of my "fill in" postings are from earlier years, but this one is a fresh new one and I only finished it last night. I Sold it today already. It is layers and layers of Acrylic overlays. Then a finish three layers of varnish to seal it. Unusual for me as the painting has a dark background, based in grays and blacks. Most likely very collectible because it is so different. The Thought: Not sure at all why I chose black and grey as I began to work this canvas. We all have times that bring us to our knees. There are always disturbing experiences in

'Blooms of Summer' 30 x 30 inches Oil on Canvas Contact me to purchase. Laurie © Laurie Justus Pace Graphics One Design 2009 I have a post note at the bottom of this post... please take a moment and read it. " Make a joyful noise to the Lord all the earth. " Psalm 100:1 Do you have a pair of old slippers? What about a favorite coffee cup? There are things we have that bring us great comfort even in their simplicity. Those 'things' are a sign to us of contentment and when in use we feel contented and safe. In comparison... what is joy? Those slippers are definitely contentment, a sign you have arrived home safe from the world, or warmth on a cold morning etc. But Joy, are those slippers joy to you? Pure joy exceeds the contentment of knowing everything is going reasonable well. As you and I both know, in a split second your world can be upside down. Joy has to be found in the moment and it comes directly from Him. Joy is in us at all times,

" Proverbs 2:1-5 "Visions" Every father has visions for life. At first as a young boy the dreams are of "what will I be when I grow up?" Some little boys want to play professional sports, some want to be mailmen... I have no clue what my dad's visions were as a child. I know by the time he was a young teenager, he worked to support his family. There were four children. My grandfather played baseball for the St Louis team back then in the late thirties, ear

" Mark 5:34 The Painting: Rough overlays of Acrylic as this painting evolved through many hours yesterday and early this morning. It began as a horizontal painting with three horses running at a slight angled. From there it pushed into a single horse, fired with flare and energy. The Thought: "Never allow someone to be your priority while allowing yourself to be their option" My daughter sent me this yesterday and even this morning I am staring at it reflectively. It is pretty deep when you think about it. Comes back to the "take care of yourself" issue that so many of us do not do, especially us mothers. God seems to gift us with the need to fix things for everyone around us. As we enable them we become t

Matthew 5:23-24. The Painting: White orchids inspired by my mother's home, filled with these beauties; she has the magic touch with them. Layers from bottom to top working overlays of color, this is not quite finished, but I am posting it today. The Thought: Sometime in your life I know you have experienced the learning, relearning experience. When you teach school they refer to the second time around as the 'reteach' lesson. When the first lessons comes around in your life you are suppose to muddle through it and glean information and save it for future times so you don't hav

" Deuteronomy 30:16 The Painting : Cool colors and a thick paint applied with a palette knife. The subtle softness of the petal of this flower was captured through the thick application of paint pulls giving it a truly dimensional effect. The Thought: One of our neighbors handed Terry a "copy" of an article from a published program from the TOUR OF HOMES in 1960 here in Dallas. There was our little home in it. What amazes me is our "dining room" is really suppose to be a den. The only dining area in the house is what most of us would term the Breakfast area. It i

'" Genesis 15:5 The Painting: So many things played into this composition. It was painted in 2008 but I retouched and reworked it as I brought it home from one of the galleries. The gallery lost it's lease and it was sad as it had just opened two months ago. This is one of my palette knife paint pulls of my horses. You can feel the summer day as you are pulled into the sunlight in the pasture. Using contrasting colors of reds and greens through out most of the composition, I down played the oranges and blues to build a quiet symphony of color in the background. Are they pausing at water or are they sharing the grass? My Thoughts: Have you ever stood outside (as an adult) and looked

Laurie $495 © Laurie Pace Graphics One Design 2009 " Amazement seized all of them, and they glorified God and were filled with awe, saying, 'We have seen strange things today. '" Luke 5:26 About the Painting: This is one of my thicker pulls of paint on canvas. The energy of the horses straining up and forward fighting for position is felt by first glance. Painted with a palette knife and Holbein Duo Oils, this painting has an appraised value of $1295. Thoughts today: It is going to be a long month. Wish it was time to take vacation. The work has started next door and there are men climbing and ripping the roof off. The noise level is moderate but it will be impossible for the baby to sleep once the construction starts. The work men are parked in front of our home making it impossible for our household to have guests. Stacey suggested cones out front. Sunday was t

Resist him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are experienced by your brotherhood in the world. " 1 Peter 5:9-10 The Painting: This is 30 x 30 Canvas and truly this size is one of my favorites to paint on. Terry hates boxing them! This painting looked totally different when it started. It was in all purples and blues with some yellow green... and look at it now. Learn more below in my story! My Thought for the Day: Last week must have been a weird moon week or something. I was on the Boards at Daily Painters and was reading a message from Micah Condon, the founder of Daily Painters about Maryanne Jacobson and one of her pieces. She had written about how the

" " Genesis 3:11 A Painting a Day: Nude studies I have not painted in a long time. I may not be done with these...but they are close. Painting small is always a challenge and I am accustomed to doing nudes with a palette knife in multiple colors. These are with soft oils applied with brush. My thought for the day: When I think of the word "naked"... I don't really think of being with out clothes... I think of being emotionally open. It is a vulnerability of the soul. The long term discussion of Eve and the apple still goes back to Adam stood there and watched her do it. He was guilty by not stepping up and saying "no". When I was painting these two figures I k

He said to him, 'Yes, Lord; you know that I love you.' Jesus said to him, 'Feed my lambs.' " John 21:15 The Posted Painting: A struggle between palette knife and color and the color won out. This is one of my earlier horse paintings from 2006. We are still recovering from the storms here and not much painting is happening right now. My thought for the day: Partnerships are great. Think of what positives comes from having someone working with you toward a goal. That could be a spouse, a business partner, a teacher and student, a minister and his flock, or you and God. There are many possible combinations. When there are two together, they stand stronger than one. When

" Proverbs 1:32-33 THE PAINTING TODAY: This is a painting done several years ago. I have a huge mess here after our big storm yesterday and scrambling to post this morning. This is a palette knife painting with warm colors on a field of blue and green. The contrast is there, but the feeling of the composition is one of calmness. Hence I named it "with grace". My Thought for Today: Yesterday was NOT a typical day at all and this "thought" is not typical either! I had an opening last night at a new super doctor clinic in town with my art work.... and was looking to a calm day of painting and getting ready fo

Exodus 20:17 A PAINTING A DAY: This was painted a few years ago as a commission painting. I have not had time to take pictures of my work from the weekend yet, so I pulled from my archives. My Thought for the Day: There is a song from Vacation Bible School from many summers ago, when my grandson was only 5. I led the music for bible school and the theme song was "I AM A PROMISE". The words have never left my brain and my grandson is almost 12 now. I think it went like this: "I am a promise I am a possibility I am a promise with a

" 2 Thessalonians 1:11 A Painting a Day: This is one of my collected painted pony pulls. This is an exclusive style that I developed in 2005, which is a story in itself. If you ever buy one I might share the story! This is a painting created in layers, MANY LAYERS. It takes lots of paint, patience and trial and error. The effect reminds me of shimmering heat, the kind of heat we have in Texas. My Thought for the Day: Time to climb out of our boxes today. If we can do that... my imagery is with a ladder because I am so deeply down in this box. By stepping out of our comfort zone and our "self" zone, we can then begin to serve others. God embraces us daily in our walk, and today is a

The next layer was in golds and yellow until I had a consistency built up to the edgy point of carving. Working on the square canvas leads to either many horses or just one. You can see where it ended up. Adding at least 12 more layers of color, this painting is quite thick. It gets to the point I am carving in paint and I love it! " Psalm 19:7 A Painting A Day: Eruption of color and movement are what comes to mind when I think of this piece. It began totally as a different subject and the subtle movement of twisting color brought this composition into focus as a thick dimensional feeling emerged. Areas of paint are up to 3/4inch thick. Those are the wonderful Holbein Duo Oils I use... no impastos on this baby! A Thought for the Day: There are those days in life that seem out of focus. From the moment you wake and throw off the covers it feels different. At first it might be thoughts of, "I didn't sleep well last night... I could use another hour of sleep." or "Is it Sunday or Monday?" That is my favorite. With Terry working a weird schedule from the rest of the world, I never know what

Proverbs 4:7 A Painting A Day: This is the third in my light series of flowers. The beginnings of each of these are a study in values and light done in off shades of acrylic paint, totally different than final hues. This allows me to study the painting as I begin to pull in the oils by palette knife. First layer is a charcoal sketch blocking in the composition. Second layer is acrylic in blue, black, orange and white. Third, the final layer is oil pulled with the palette knife. My Thought for the Day: Okay, as you read this message this morning ...STOP. Stop and think about why you are here... here on this earth. Here with this family and friends... what is the true purpose and meaning of your life? You are made up of years of daily experiences that have molded you in
