A Painting a Day
Good morning from the studio...FOG is very thick outside. BUT I am painting inside. This one is on auction this week. I painted it last weekend. Three horses on their journey are captured in a split second of light flashing through the woods they travel. Yesterday in art class we began a four week study of telling stories through painting and work. We looked at works of Monet, Cezanne, Renoir, Donna Howell Sickles, Morgan Weistling and a few others, and from each piece we investigated the story the painting was telling. We discussed how some pieces leave blanks in the story that your eye and your imagination has to fill in and some give you every detail you could imagine capturing your mind to look further for more. They then used pastel on paper and created a story about SPRING. We covered words for spring, things they do in the spring, holidays in the spring, and colors associated with spring. Outcome was thunderstorms, baseball still-life, flowers (of course), butterflies and caterpillars on butterfly bushes, people in a field planting seeds.....I was thrilled with their imaginations.
Grace to you all,
Laurie
