Counting the sleeps until Santa comes. Counting the items we need from the grocery store next week that somehow must be picked up today. Counting how many days are left to wrap presents and grab those last-minute extras. And, of course, counting down the days until we cross into a brand-new year. On this Countdown to Christmas, today was to be full and joyful. The grands were all coming over to ice sugar cookies and make caramel Krispies. What started as a house full of little helpers quickly counted down to just one.  Why? Part of our countdown this year seems to include the flu making its way through our part of Texas. Ephesians 4:2    HURRY This time of year finds everyone in a hurry. The days feel shorter, the lists longer, and patience thinner than we’d like to admit. From an artist’s perspective, I notice how quickly we move past one another without really seeing what’s in front of us. We rush to judgment just as easily as we rush through our errands. The mother struggling to manage three children climbing out of a shopping cart while balancing a newborn in a carrier becomes a moment of irritation instead of a moment of empathy. We ask ourselves why the children won’t listen, without considering how full her hands—and her heart—might already be. This season always brings memories of years past: grandchildren icing sugar cookies, warm cinnamon rolls made from my grandmother’s recipe, and family gathered together. Christmas Eve meant chili, cornbread, and music filling the house as my youngest son and I played guitars and sang carols. Over time, traditions changed. We moved to a smaller home, our children took on hosting holidays, and our house grew quieter. While change is part of life, it isn’t always easy. We miss the laughter, the noise, and the simple joy of grandchildren running through the house. The holidays also remind us of loved ones who are no longer with us. Most mornings I wake up with a list of to do things that cannot be completed.  Question is, are they purposeful things, or just piles of things that even if small, it sucks up 30 min or more.  Philippians 2:1-2  " Therefore if you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any common sharing in the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion,   2  then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and of one mind." I painted and then piled more paint and then washed the canvas off late last night. The first layer was acrylic and way better than the oils...
