Holidaze
With just over a week until Christmas, our home feels calm—at least for the moment. This season always brings memories of years past: grandchildren icing sugar cookies, warm cinnamon rolls made from my grandmother’s recipe, and family gathered together. Christmas Eve meant chili, cornbread, and music filling the house as my youngest son and I played guitars and sang carols.
Over time, traditions changed. We moved to a smaller home, our children took on hosting holidays, and our house grew quieter. While change is part of life, it isn’t always easy. We miss the laughter, the noise, and the simple joy of grandchildren running through the house.
The holidays also remind us of loved ones who are no longer with us. For many, this season can bring both gratitude and grief. As we grow older, caring for ourselves becomes more important than ever—staying active, eating well, and choosing habits that support our health and spirit.
One of the best gifts we can give ourselves is doing what we love: walking, reading, making music, gardening, cooking for others, or simply being present. Avoiding the pull of constant screens and choosing movement, creativity, and connection helps keep us engaged with life.
Most of all, I am grateful for my faith, which offers guidance, hope, and perspective in every season. As we approach Christmas, may we focus on gratitude, health, love, and the true meaning of this holy season as we prepare our hearts to celebrate the birth of our Lord and Savior. Elle
