Whirlwinds...Inhibitions and more

© Laurie Pace        Graphics One Design 2024 Whirlwind 24 x 36 Oils on Canvas   by Laurie Pace   Going back through past years of painting is really inspiring.  This one lives in North Carolina. It never made the website, I had shared progress pieces on my blog back then and one of my clients said... it is mine. I want it.  Whirlwind has to do with Elijah in the Bible.  2 Kings 2:11 "As they were walking along and talking together, suddenly a chariot of fire and horses of fire appeared and separated the two of them, and Elijah went up to heaven in a whirlwind." Elijah was great prophet and you really need to read to story to grasp it. Some say it foreshadowed Christ's Ascension after his death.   As I study this painting, I truly am motivated to paint. I need to order a new easel as I sold my large one three years ago just before my Mom fell sick. I had been using a smaller one and it just...

Sunrise Run, Time for Real Commitment in Marriage

© Laurie Pace        Graphics One Design 2023 Sunrise Run Oil on Canvas by Laurie Pace Oh my... I wanted to call it Sunrise FUN!!!  This was painted in 2011 and it is sold. What a fun piece this was to paint! Just enough Orange in the background with yellows to balance the purple and the blues in this stunning horse painting.  Had hoped to have a new painting to share...maybe I can start it today or tomorrow.   COMMITMENT - NOT ABOUT YOU We just celebrated our 33rd wedding anniversary. Marriage is not for the faint of heart.  Marriage is work and marriage is commitment.  In the Bible Jesus speaks of a house built on sand and shaken by storms, while another house built on rocks, remained unmoved through the storms. What is yours based on?  Sand represents 'feelings' and Rock represents Commitment.   There is no real "I" in marriage. It is a small 'i'  Favorite Song: Walk through this World with Me...

From a Place of Love

© Laurie Pace        Graphics One Design 2024 Wooing Him 16 x 20  Oils on Cradled Birch Available    by Laurie Pace   I wanted to post the final photo of the painting I just completed . Definitely stunning in person.  I know there is a heart that will be called to this one. It truly has a story with it.  Your story.  As you know this horse painting began with a sketch on the birch, and then clear gesso and some sanding again.  Then it was time to paint with glazes that created the under layers that burn through ever so slightly.  It will get a good varnish once it is dry and ready!  Psalm 119:76-77  "Please let your loving kindness be for my comfort, according to your word to your servant. Let your tender mercies come to me that I may live; for your law is my delight." Have to reflect in this short blog to the words 'loving kindness' .  It truly is important to have t...

Horse Painting in Progress

© Laurie Pace        Graphics One Design 2024 Wooing 16 x 20  Oils on Cradled Birch PAINTING IN PROGRESS  by Laurie Pace   " But as for me, I am poor and needy; come quickly to me, O God. You are my help and my deliverer; LORD, do not delay." Psalm 70:5 A new painting in progress.  I love painting on birch.  If I could I would paint on it exclusively. I am laying down layers of color glazing it over as I go. My goal was to establish the connection as tight as the true photo. Again I often work from Helmut Hussman, Nevada Photographer on Facebook. He has always been kind to allow me the privilege to use his photography. I will continue to work on it today. I started the drawing on Saturday and then began painting on Sunday.  Yesterday I allowed the current layers to begin to dry and I will continue laying on the base of the left horse's coat and also continue to layer up more on the blue face....

First Pink Rose

© Laurie Pace        Graphics One Design 2023 First Rose 10 x 10  Oils on Cradled Birch Available    by Laurie Pace   John 15:13 Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends. Back... Back and painting.  A three day piece of work that delighted me to paint and be back with color lifting my mood and bringing a smile! Roses from my garden right now and inspired to paint them after seeing a beautiful rose by Nacogdoches Photographer Wendy Floyd. I love the light behind her rose and I just used the brightness in this painting! Rose paintings are a favorite. My last one was a yellow rose with water drops on it.  We have had rain and more rain...floods, hail and tornados forming overhead in the last 24 hours.  The hail was between golfball size and tennis ball size. Literally we have not seen rain like this since 2007.  I rather hope it continues...but not...

Periwinkle Horse Play Keeps Stress Away

© Laurie Pace        Graphics One Design 2023 30 x 30 inches   by Laurie Pace   “  For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms."  Judges 5:31 I still look back with love at these paintings from 14 years ago. When I would paint my horses they varied in how I approached the canvas. Sometimes with under layers and sometimes with a palette knife and lots of paint.  This is the later... knife and paint. Most of these were from a time that I spent working daily painting large paintings and selling them as quickly as I painted them. My mind was in a good place, my natural instincts were sharpened to  know what was needed as I created each piece. It was all intuitive. This horse painting happens to have my heart color on the base of the horse... a periw...
