“You expected to be sad in the fall. Part of you died each year when the leaves fell from the trees and their branches were bare against the wind and the cold, wintery light. But you knew there would always be the spring, as you knew the river would flow again after it was frozen. When the cold rains kept on and killed the spring, it was as though a young person died for no reason.” ― Ernest Hemingway, A Moveable Feast
It is not time for New Years and resolutions... especially the ones we do not keep. But we are able to think about the things we could positively change inside of ourselves for the better... right? Each of us has pockets full of rocks we carry around and burdens we seem to drag with us. Wouldn't it be great if we could shed them every fall like the trees shed their leaves? The trees bare up against the cold winter but out breaks the spring with new growth.
You cannot have new growth until you prune away the things we need to lose in our lives. Burdens, bad habits, anger, hate... time to let it go. You cannot receive the new until you let go of the old.
Abraham was ready to give up his own son to sacrifice... and this is where it got him... Read about it in Genesis 22.
"and said, "I swear by myself, declares the LORD, that because you have done this and have not withheld your son, your only son, I will surely bless you and make your descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and as the sand on the seashore. Your descendants will take possession of the cities of their enemies." Genesis 27:28-29
