“When everything seems to be going against you, remember that the airplane takes off against the wind, not with it ....” ― Henry Ford
Last journal entry I shared Big Eddie. While in Wine Country that trip,  we stopped for wine tasting at Rooster Hill Vineyards where my art show had been two weeks earlier. I am not a drinker, but I did like their Cabernet Sauvignon and I am not a red wine drinker at all. I am more into their Dry Riesling. We have been members of their wine club for seven years, and all my galleries get good wine for the Holidays.
With the popping up of hurricanes a few weeks ago brought back memories of this trip. We were without computers for the 8 days we were there. Only internet in a few places.  We began watching flights on a Tuesday, and an incoming hurricane... we had hoped to return to Washington and stay a few nights with my dear friend Niki and do the sightseeing thing. Then we got a call from daughter Stacey on Thursday afternoon on Terry's phone, that we would miss our grandson Jonathan's birthday party on Sunday. At the time he was our only grandson and we decided we better watch flights closer. Mom was really tired and we knew she would not last if we tried to do Washington too. In the midst of all of this my phone got packed somewhere! No more worry about weather.
Terry and I were up at four and got Mom up at five and we headed south to Washington DC. Long story very short... time was close as we hit the airport the flight was loading. It was 12:25 and departure was 35 min later.   We still had to make it through the airport security.  That was solved with Mom in a wheelchair and  we pushed ahead. They took us through security immediately with her.... but egads we had to get on a transport mover to take us out to the larger gates. I glanced at the time, 12:42 for the 1 pm departure. The mover docked and Terry ran ahead to the counter five gates away. I was huffing pulling mom's luggage and suddenly she zoomed by in the wheel chair with the airport agent grinning and mom waving at me! Too long of story I know, but at the gate, they stopped the line boarding the plane and put mom in her seat and took us on board. We did not make first class, but did sit in row eight near the front.
God is good. I knew we were in his care for that day of travel. His hand held us close as it all fell together within precious moments. The flight was fabulous and we arrived back on HOT TEXAS SOIL. We  wore Mom out but she was smiling! I thought about this trip because we are just now getting some cooler temps here in Texas that are more like summer days up there.
It will be a shelter and shade from the heat of the day, and a refuge and hiding place from the storm and rain. Isaiah 4:6
