My Traveling Zinnias

“God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.” — Psalm 46:1

We have all heard it:

Bloom where you are planted.

Apparently, no one explained that to our zinnias.

It is August in Texas. The heat is relentless and we are heading into a sun forced Indian Summer in September. The winds are coming hard out of the south, the grass is burning beneath our feet, and watering is restricted to two certain days.

We are up at 4:30 in the morning on those days, trying to give the enormous oak trees, flowers and grass enough water to endure another three or four days.

Some of the zinnias have had enough.

They haven't died.

They've moved.

Well...as much as a zinnia can move.

They have bent almost to the ground and stretched themselves toward the shade beneath our porch swing. And there, tucked away from the worst of the Texas sun, they are still blooming. Bees are still buzzing around them. Butterflies are still finding them.

They didn't stay where conditions were destroying them simply because that was where they were planted.

They reached toward what gave them life.

Maybe endurance isn't always about standing tall.

Sometimes endurance is knowing what to bend toward.

What to reach for.

What gives you life?

And perhaps that is something worth remembering when life suddenly changes and we find ourselves simply trying to survive.

Sometimes we don't have the luxury of standing still and thinking everything through. We move. We make the decision in front of us. We reach for shelter.

And later, looking back, we realize—

we were still blooming.

Sunlit Bowl

© Laurie Pace        Graphics One Design 2025 Sunlit Bowl Oil on Canvas  SOLD   by Laurie Pace   A Painting of soft pink and white flowers   created in 2013 brings back memories of living at Lake Cypress Springs. I loved it there. It did not love me!  Mold was my downfall.  I was prolific at painting there with my studio looking over the waters of a large catfish pond and Lake Cypress Springs. The mold pushed us back to DRY Dallas.  God guides our path today.  Memories are flooding in with the morning sun.  Proverbs 4:18    “ The path of the righteous is like the morning sun, shining ever brighter till the full light of day.”  Today will be over 100 degrees but by Saturday the high is 79. Weather is the main talk these days. Remember I am in Texas.   We heard they may get snow in the Ohio River Valley. We are to see storms from the Pacific Hurricane coming our directio...
A Bit of Wonder Contemporary Horse Oil Daily Painting Art by Laurie Justus Pace 24 x 30 x 2 inches of thick buttery oils! Contact me to purchase: Laurie "This is the day that the Lord has made; Let us rejoice and be glad in it". Psalm 118:24 It was a day of celebration yesterday as Lauren Gracen was born. Stacey began her labor around nine in the morning and was ready to push by 12:15, but they held her off while getting things set up. Took four good contractions with multiple pushes and the baby was there! All grandparents accounted for to count the toes and fingers! My admiration is for my daughter and her bravery and calmness despite the tension and newness of what she faced. I was honored to be there as the baby was delivered seeing my granddaughter push out into the light and take her first breathe... and then cry... and that she did. Terry was able to participate and he and Larry helped with pushing and getting Stacey upright for the process and then Terry was hon...
