Winter Beauty
 by Laurie Pace

While the weather outside might look deceptively beautiful, it is anything but gentle. At two degrees in North Texas, sleet has fallen thick and heavy, transforming patios and yards into massive skating rinks. Overnight, despite honeycomb shades and blackout curtains, the reflected light from the ice made it seem as though the outdoors was illuminated all night long. When I rose around four a.m. to check the faucets, I couldn’t resist peeking outside—four to five inches of sleet covered everything, brilliant and unforgiving.

Inside, the studio tells a different story. On the easel, the painting is alive with color, worked boldly with a palette knife, offering warmth where the landscape cannot. Though the sun has emerged this morning, there will be no thaw—only strong north winds and another full day spent indoors. Winter storms have a way of slowing life down, narrowing the focus, and asking us to adapt.

We begin the day simply. My husband made fresh hot oatmeal with flax seed, apples and raisins cooked in and delicious homemade butter biscuits—an ideal start to a cold morning. These moments of routine and creativity help anchor us during extreme weather, reminding us that even in the harshest conditions, there is comfort to be found in warmth, art, buttered biscuits and shared time. Sunlit Bowl

© Laurie Pace        Graphics One Design 2025 Sunlit Bowl Oil on Canvas  SOLD   by Laurie Pace   A Painting of soft pink and white flowers   created in 2013 brings back memories of living at Lake Cypress Springs. I loved it there. It did not love me!  Mold was my downfall.  I was prolific at painting there with my studio looking over the waters of a large catfish pond and Lake Cypress Springs. The mold pushed us back to DRY Dallas.  God guides our path today.  Memories are flooding in with the morning sun.  Proverbs 4:18    “ The path of the righteous is like the morning sun, shining ever brighter till the full light of day.”  Today will be over 100 degrees but by Saturday the high is 79. Weather is the main talk these days. Remember I am in Texas.   We heard they may get snow in the Ohio River Valley. We are to see storms from the Pacific Hurricane coming our directio...

A Bit of Wonder Contemporary Horse Oil Daily Painting Art by Laurie Justus Pace 24 x 30 x 2 inches of thick buttery oils! Contact me to purchase: Laurie "This is the day that the Lord has made; Let us rejoice and be glad in it". Psalm 118:24 It was a day of celebration yesterday as Lauren Gracen was born. Stacey began her labor around nine in the morning and was ready to push by 12:15, but they held her off while getting things set up. Took four good contractions with multiple pushes and the baby was there! All grandparents accounted for to count the toes and fingers! My admiration is for my daughter and her bravery and calmness despite the tension and newness of what she faced. I was honored to be there as the baby was delivered seeing my granddaughter push out into the light and take her first breathe... and then cry... and that she did. Terry was able to participate and he and Larry helped with pushing and getting Stacey upright for the process and then Terry was hon...
