Movement with the Violin

The Quiet Voice of the Violin.

I am not as knowledgeable about the voice of a violin as I am with piano or guitar.
But perhaps that is why this painting stayed with me so deeply.

Movement

The flowing sleeves of this young musician caught my attention first — the way fabric moves with the arm, rising and falling as the bow travels across the strings. That gentle wave feels like the music itself, lifting and settling, shaped by the smallest change in pressure or speed.

This is an oil painting, a commissioned piece, and I loved every hour spent on it — about four days of complete focus. Painting her felt like listening without trying to name the notes. Just watching. Just following the motion.

The sound of a violin can lure us — sometimes to dance, sometimes simply to stay very still and listen. It invites you to notice variance: the difference in bow, the pause between phrases, the subtle changes that carry emotion more than volume ever could.

I have never tried to play the violin. It feels like it would demand a level of patience and precision that commands respect.

Music keeps finding its way into my life, even when I don’t expect it.

The violin speaks softly compared to some instruments, but it asks us to listen more closely. And perhaps that is why painting this piece felt so complete — because the music was already there, moving through the motion of her arms, waiting to be seen.

I loved it there. It did not love me!  Mold was my downfall.  I was prolific at painting there with my studio looking over the waters of a large catfish pond and Lake Cypress Springs. The mold pushed us back to DRY Dallas.  God guides our path today.  Memories are flooding in with the morning sun.  Proverbs 4:18    “ The path of the righteous is like the morning sun, shining ever brighter till the full light of day.”  Today will be over 100 degrees but by Saturday the high is 79. Weather is the main talk these days. Remember I am in Texas.   We heard they may get snow in the Ohio River Valley. We are to see storms from the Pacific Hurricane coming our directio...

A Bit of Wonder Contemporary Horse Oil Daily Painting Art by Laurie Justus Pace 24 x 30 x 2 inches of thick buttery oils! Contact me to purchase: Laurie "This is the day that the Lord has made; Let us rejoice and be glad in it". Psalm 118:24 It was a day of celebration yesterday as Lauren Gracen was born. Stacey began her labor around nine in the morning and was ready to push by 12:15, but they held her off while getting things set up. Took four good contractions with multiple pushes and the baby was there! All grandparents accounted for to count the toes and fingers! My admiration is for my daughter and her bravery and calmness despite the tension and newness of what she faced. I was honored to be there as the baby was delivered seeing my granddaughter push out into the light and take her first breathe... and then cry... and that she did. Terry was able to participate and he and Larry helped with pushing and getting Stacey upright for the process and then Terry was hon...
