Old Eyes
More art coming soon.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
When I brushed my teeth this morning, I stopped for a millisecond and looked into the mirror and saw ‘old eyes’.
Granted, not these in the photo above, but something more joyful.
"He who is of a calm and happy nature will hardly feel the pressure of age, but to him who is of an opposite disposition, youth and age are equally a burden." Plato (427-346 B.C.)
We are all growing older. There are more old people daily and more crossing over the 65 mark. After being around many between that age and up, I know one thing… I do not want to be a grumpy old person. Do you?
"Grow old along with me! The best is yet to be." Robert Browning (1812-1889)
God threatens bad things to those who grumble. Just read Psalm 106: 25-26 “They grumbled in their tents and did not obey the Lord. So he swore to them with uplifted hand that he would make them fall in the wilderness,” For the complainers and fault finders, he promises the same thing. Philippians 2:14-15 “Do everything without grumbling or arguing, so that you may become blameless and pure, “children of God without fault in a warped and crooked generation. Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky.”
Do you want to shine like those stars in the sky? When you grow old, with white hair and less strength, what do you want to be like? I want to be a beacon of God’s love and forgiving mercy. The Lord will not forsake me. No matter what is ahead with aging, I know the Lord God is there with me through all of it. I have never been afraid of death, but I have given thought to what may 'take' me. Some people go in a blink of an eye, while others go through hospitalization, treatments for disease, and spend their last days in treatment. Psalm 71 covers it all well, verse 9: “ Do not cast me off in the time of old age; forsake me not when my strength is spent.” Verse 18 “Even to old age and gray hairs, O God, do not forsake me”
Through out life, God's words have sustained me and strengthened me. They have given me hope when I felt despair or fear. We learn our pain, struggles and troubles are a gift God uses to strengthen us and make us a better people.
Today find the best you can around you and focus on it no matter what your age. Be the smile in the room, the heart that gives when there is need.
“Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: for the LORD your God, he it is that does go with you; he will not fail you, nor forsake you. Deuteronomy 31:6
