“You can't become a decent horseman until you fall off and get up again, a good number of times. There's life in a nutshell.” ― Bear Grylls, Mud, Sweat and Tears
Remember your parents saying "If you don't succeed, try try again."? My parents thought it was important to go after what you wanted and even if you did not get there, you learned so much in the process. That never worked for me in Elementary School for the science fair. I NEVER had any interest in science for some reason. I was an artist. My poor mom learned so much over those six years...and bless her heart, she could not help me in high school. I remember on of the science projects she put together for me was making water run uphill. I was hopeless. I refused to take biology in high school and my counselor was not very happy. I could not even think about cutting open something and dissecting it. NOT for me.
OH NO... I took Physics. I thought the counselor would never stop shaking her head. I had only had one year of algebra...but I really learned a lot in the class of upperclassman and I grew a huge appreciation for science at that point. I did not make an A, but I did make a B. Then I hit college. The catalogue I was registered under did NOT require me to have science to get my BFA. I celebrated... and enjoyed all my classes and the pressure was off. A few years later and three kids later I went back to take courses to get my teaching certificate and they got me good. I had to take four hours of science as a requirement to get my elementary teaching certificate.
What happened in biology 101 was amazing. There was NO dissecting. We studied that part of biology of the human body, reproduction, genetics, blood etc. I loved every single class and every lab I attended and pulled a 4.0 in the class.
Sure this was a 'dumb' example but for a teen age 13, looking ahead and feeling so insecure... I took hard routes trying to get around what might have been easier routes, but I learned from everything I did.
In life we are faced with decisions daily. I am pretty level on taking on work before pleasure all the time, almost to a fault. But there are still some things I am learning and I try try try try again. I know I have mentioned this before in blogging, but I do not drive. I did as a teen, but then around twenty I gave up. Some folks are not meant to drive. But here years and years later, I do drive a few places here and there close by. I have not given up. The lure of freedom sometimes beckons me. I will try try again.
Are you working on anything right now?
"Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him." James 1:12
