“The third-rate mind is only happy when it is thinking with the majority. The second-rate mind is only happy when it is thinking with the minority. The first-rate mind is only happy when it is thinking." [War With Honour, 1940]” ― A.A. Milne
How much value do you give to second thoughts?
sec·ond thoughts . noun . a change of opinion or resolve reached after considering something again. Example: "on second thought, perhaps he was right"
When taking a test it is usually better to ignore second thoughts. That is when you start talking yourself out of your first impression answer, which is usually correct. As an artist working on canvas, sometimes second thoughts hold more value... The canvas seems to have a mind of its own, or at least a spirit that grows from the surface of color. Gee some of mine have third thought and fourth thought.
I love A.A. Milne's quote above. We are a society of people that wants love and wants to be accepted. So too often I believe we try to join and think with the majority to be popular or with the larger group. Is that really sane thinking? Then you think about the minority group, which is usually filled with personalities that challenge the accepted norm, or the majority thinkers.
Confused yet? Perhaps it is best to be an independent that thinks on your own. Can we get to that point of accepting and loving ourselves just like we are? That my friend, is a first thought and I think I will stay with it.
"I said to myself, “God will bring into judgment both the righteous and the wicked, for there will be a time for every activity, a time to judge every deed.”
I also said to myself, “As for humans, God tests them so that they may see that they are like the animals. Surely the fate of human beings is like that of the animals; the same fate awaits them both: As one dies, so dies the other. All have the same breath; humans have no advantage over animals. Everything is meaningless. All go to the same place; all come from dust, and to dust all return. Who knows if the human spirit rises upward and if the spirit of the animal goes down into the earth?” So I saw that there is nothing better for a person than to enjoy their work, because that is their lot. For who can bring them to see what will happen after them?" Ecclesiastes 3:17-22
