"Inside a barn is a whole universe, with its own time zone and climate and ecosystem, a shadowy world of swirling dust illuminated in tiger stripes by light shining through the cracks between the boards. Old leather tack, lengths of chain, rope, and baling twine dangled from nails and rafters and draped over stall railings. Generations of pocket knives lay lost in the layers of detritus on the floor.” ― Carolyn Jourdan
My grandparents had a farm in St Louis. I know there must have been a barn but I mainly remember the main farmhouse, the 'outhouse' and the planted area where they grew things. Wait, I do remember the chickens. I feel like the entire farm was a Universe filled with summer discoveries each year I was there.
What a delightful memory for any child to have that summer opportunity to spend a few weeks at a grandparent's farm. I laugh because Lady L, who is six now, affectionately calls our home at the lake, our cottage by the lake. I am not sure what memories she has of it, but dad gum, I do miss the lake. If it were not for family here and the grands...I would have never left that alternate Universe "the Cottage".

Joy to you this day...
