When we lived in Lake Highlands area of Dallas, our old stomping grounds, we lived on a small single block street where neighbors knew neighbors and we all were part of our block. Block parties were something to look forward to and the adults enjoyed it as much as the children did. It was a perfect spot for me to wander with my camera and snap pictures of families together, children playing and lots of games and competition as well as tables overflowing with food.
Curb SItters was painted from one of my shots of the girls... each eating and sharing something special from the day. I do not paint like this very often and sometimes I wish I did. I know my work would be stronger today than it was in 2009 when I did this one. That was over five years ago.
Friendships are to be valued. The love of neighbors and the coming together of families is rare these days. I hope in our new neighborhood we might get a block party going this next spring. We are a one block street as well and with all the families crossing all the ages, it would be wonderful.
Give a prayer of Thanks this day celebrating the love of friends and neighbors. Laurie
"Jonathan said to David, “Go in peace, for we have sworn friendship with each other in the name of the Lord, saying, ‘The Lord is witness between you and me, and between your descendants and my descendants forever.’” Then David left, and Jonathan went back to the town." 1 Samuel 20:42
