Herding Cats

This boot hangs on one of our trees in the backyard. It was left by the prior owner. Some days I absolutely love where we live...and then desperation hits of missing my family.  Usually if I am outside I am smiling as I love the peace and serenity of living here.  God wants us to find that same serenity in finding our home with Him.  Why is it so hard for us?

I had an email from artist Sharon Hodges. She was trying to console me as I am putting together a book for the Artists of Texas and our show this fall. Instructions were simple, Send me....

1. FIVE 300 dpi images at 9 inches
2. One bio picture 300 DPI at 3 inches
3. Bio of 400 words or less in WORD

In pure frustration I only saw maybe 10% of the artists follow my directions. The rest became a battle day after day....and last night I hit the wall. Sharon was trying to console me.... as she mentioned dealing with these artists is like herding cats.  I laughed...truly laughed till I cried.  I love Sharon.

I am almost positive God feels the same way about us.  He tries to guard and guide us in the right ways and we are as independent as those cats Sharon is referring to.  God stands right where He is and waits for us as we scamper off in all the different directions we go... and when we get lost, He shows up suddenly to take us back home with Him.

His instructions are simple as well for us, do you follow them?

"He answered: "'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind'; and, 'Love your neighbor as yourself.'"  Luke 10:27

Simple Abundance to you...

"The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.  Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever."   Psalm 23

Mixed Media Collage Horse Paintings by Texas Artist Laurie Justus Pace

© G.O.D. Laurie Justus Pace      Graphics One Design 2013 Horse Collage Fall 2013  12 x 18 inches Mixed Media on Canvas.  This was an intentional paint to imitate one of the 100 ponies I did in 2012. That poor little 8 x 10 pony was loved by a company to do very large prints and it was not here for me to even use to scan... so I created something with the same heart, a kindred spirit. The underlays are pages from a western book and then torn papers of different varieties were added along with stains of paint and purposeful areas of paint.  This would not be a painting I would do today, but the goal was to capture the spirit of the first painting. Laurie     © Laurie Justus Pace     Graphics One Design 2010 My Website   Thinking ahead to the Thanksgiving celebration next week, I remembered back to those previous dinners that I cooked, served, ate quickly, and cleaned up.  This is how I felt.  It is probably strange...even for me but I had the best fun sketching it out and painting it. We lost another dear family member this week. She has celebrated her 'continuation' day and is now with her mom and dad and her other cousins.  She leaves behind a family that will always celebrate her gentleness.  My aunt was special to all of us. She loved each of us dearly for who we were and was always ready with a hug or a 'good job'.    My memories are of breakfast pastries smeared with butter on top. It was not like they were not sweet enough as they were, but at her small kitch...

Sleeping Cowboy . Ernest Hemingway . Sunday, a day of rest . Western Painting by Texas Artist Laurie Pace

My life has the tendency to fall apart when I'm awake, you know?” Ernest Hemingway  I really enjoyed painting this scene. It was restful to me as the artist  and loved by our friends.  Sunday is the day of rest. I smiled when I found this in archives and thought it perfect for this day.  If you live in Texas you know that we still have 'rules' about not selling liquor before noon.  If you live in Texas and are in your late thirties and up, you might even remember Blue Laws.   Stores were simply NOT open...
