WOOLGATHERING

I was reading The Colonel's Lady by Laura Frantz today and came across the term woolgathering.  I had not heard that term in years. The more I thought about it the more I realized we all are intense wool gathers.  As we try so hard in life to make things work our way...our way is the wooly way. It is what we have gathering up in our brain to be the way things should be. You can find the definition as: Indulgence in idle fancies and in daydreaming; absentmindedness.

Laura's book was anything but that, and I did not put it down until I finished the last page.  But the term woolgathering stayed with me as I reflected on it.  Then I had picked up my Bible and was reading Joshua today... I was only in the first chapter when I read the verses I posted below and the tears were coming down my face.

Why do we feel like we have to fix everything and plan everything and resolve everything? Why do we feel so afraid? God is with us as He was with Moses...and most of you know what Moses went through. He was dealing with a ton of personalities plus his own inadequacies with his lisping and speech impediments. Could you truly believe it if I said to you...NO ONE WILL STAND AGAINST YOU ALL THE DAYS OF YOUR LIFE ?

Instead of worrying about things that will never happen or planning for things you have no control over...start thinking about the verses I have below. I will be repeating these words often...as they spoke to my heart. I hope they speak to to your heart as well.

Laurie

Joshua 1:5-9   "No one will be able to stand against you all the days of your life. As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you.  Be strong and courageous, because you will lead these people to inherit the land I swore to their ancestors to give them.
“Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful wherever you go. Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful. Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.”

This is so, so true. Ive been sharing these passages recently with my 7 year old son because he was afraid of some monsters, and more than anyone else, I gleaned a lot of truths from these verses in Joshua.
God bless!
Thanks Joshua... one of the BEST books I am reading is Anxious for Nothing by John MacArthur. It is not expensive but I do believe if you read it, it will provide many things that will work well with not only adults but with the seven year old mind. I have taught that age for MANY years..... The more the children see you practicing it, the more they begin to use it everyday as well. Sometimes it is good to share with him that you can have fear and share how you deal with it....

Blessings,

Thanks for your encouraging response. I will look into that book you mentioned. It is so true that children can learn from us, adults, in so many ways. I have underestimated the impact of my walk with Christ to our children, I should know better now having two wonderful children (daughter is 12, son is 7) with my wife.
God bless! (Jun)

A Bit of Wonder Contemporary Horse Oil Daily Painting Art by Laurie Justus Pace 24 x 30 x 2 inches of thick buttery oils! Contact me to purchase: Laurie "This is the day that the Lord has made; Let us rejoice and be glad in it". Psalm 118:24 It was a day of celebration yesterday as Lauren Gracen was born. Stacey began her labor around nine in the morning and was ready to push by 12:15, but they held her off while getting things set up. Took four good contractions with multiple pushes and the baby was there! All grandparents accounted for to count the toes and fingers! My admiration is for my daughter and her bravery and calmness despite the tension and newness of what she faced. I was honored to be there as the baby was delivered seeing my granddaughter push out into the light and take her first breathe... and then cry... and that she did. Terry was able to participate and he and Larry helped with pushing and getting Stacey upright for the process and then Terry was hon...

Arrival...Refrigerator?

© Laurie Pace        Graphics One Design 2024 Arrival Oil on Canvas  SOLD   by Laurie Pace   Proverbs 16:3 "Commit to the Lord whtever you do, and he will establish your plans."   Worrisome times laced with prayers.   The world seems like a scary place lately. Praying for everyone affected by the last two hurricanes.  My adventures today were the result of a dead refrigerator. I have loved my Kitchen Aid refrigerator very much. The first one in the 'French Kitchen' look died at 13 months. Hubby wanted the same refrigerator. Well this one made it four years and a few months. I cannot believe appliances are not made to last longer...but wait, is that because they make more money if we have to replace it in 4-5 years?  You replace your mattress at least every 7 years... and your washer dryer, you might get 7 years out of those... The stoves seem to make it closer to 10 years. We are Lowe's customers, and Robert ...

The Marsh... of our lives? Walking with God.

© Laurie Pace        Graphics One Design 2024 The Marsh 6 x 12 inches Oil on Canvas  SOLD   by Laurie Pace   I did two of these paintings about three years ago. They both sold immediately to a Florida Collector. Simple and elegant for a horse painting.  Ephesians 5:1-2 "Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children and walk in love, just as Christ also loved you and gave Himself up for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God as a fragrant aroma."  One of the biggest challenges in walking with God is trusting Him and not trying to out think Him or to do everything your way. It never works.  The Apostle Paul wrote of his own struggles in Romans 7 .  Romans 7: 22-23 “ So I find this law at work: Although I want to do good, evil is right there with me. For in my inner being I delight in God’s law; but I see another law at work in me, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the ...
