I had to finish it off with the red moon. It has been 372 years since the last lunar eclipse with a beautiful red moon. "A total lunar eclipse occurs when the Earth aligns between a full moon and the sun, blocking any sunlight from reflecting off the moon's surface."

One of the articles I read was how someone commented that God gifted us with a beautiful early Christmas present. I could not agree more.

That inspired me to tuck the red moon into the background of this painting. Artists always tell the story; Artists alway record history. I wanted to make sure I recorded a bit of red moon history in this painting. I had started this winter solstice painting last week and I finished it yesterday on the actual day. I didn't even realize as I was painting it that I had leaned toward light and dark naturally in the composition of a light horse and a dark horse. I had been after subtle colors with slight accents of turquoise and russet browns with a pinch of Indian yellow. The addition of the red moon came after rising up early to catch a glimpse of it. So the painting has much meaning woven into the shortest day of the year. Light will begin to fill our lives for longer days as we head into January. With light is always hope; with light is love and warmth and feelings of safety. May this painting be an inspiration to turn to the light.

Arrival...Refrigerator?

Worrisome times laced with prayers. The world seems like a scary place lately. Praying for everyone affected by the last two hurricanes. My adventures today were the result of a dead refrigerator. I have loved my Kitchen Aid refrigerator very much. The first one in the 'French Kitchen' look died at 13 months. Hubby wanted the same refrigerator. Well this one made it four years and a few months. I cannot believe appliances are not made to last longer...but wait, is that because they make more money if we have to replace it in 4-5 years? You replace your mattress at least every 7 years... and your washer dryer, you might get 7 years out of those... The stoves seem to make it closer to 10 years. We have family and friends in this area. This painting was a more impressionistic piece than the Girl on Piano pieces from 2008-2010. It is the tilt of the head and the precious lift of the hand with the outer small finger delicately angled. Not quite old enough to be using pedals, her feet are crossed below the bench.
