The PaintingThe beauty of Holbein Duo Oils is really really obvious in this painting. I cannot praise the quality of these paints more.  From using linseed oil and layer in thin layers to mixing color and applying them solidly like creamy butter without impasto...they hold up beautifully creating a dimensional carving to the canvas.  This is one of my favorites of the year squeaking out in late November.  It is one of the Spirit with out question.

The Thought: Yesterday was the first Sunday in Advent and I was not prepared.  I have been writing you for the past few weeks about preparation and then the writer was not prepared.  I cannot pass the blame anywhere but here.  I have been fighting internet connection for the past two years and when my art work that I need to load and do things with cannot make it from my computer to my website after six or seven failed tries and two hours I get frustrated. Multiply that to occur at least four times a day and you know where I am coming from.  That is why my wonderful mother was here Saturday trying to help upload things so I could paint.

Many consider that first candle lit yesterday as the candle of prophecy or the candle of hope.  I touched on prophecy yesterday with the verses out of the Old Testament that spoke of the coming birth of the Messiah from a virgin.  I continue to challenge you this week to connect back with God and begin to listen to what He places in your heart and mind.  The prophets of old were not very popular people. God used them as a conduit to get His word out to the people, and the people did not want to listen.  Many prophets died in painful ways because the people did not want to be reminded they were doing it wrong.

I think we all begin to squirm when we accept the fact that we are doing it wrong...living life wrong, making inconsiderate choices, or bad decisions that affect our entire life.  There is no manual on the future of your life...but there is a book, The Bible, that can offer so much insight into your life, that if you spend time in its pages you will only benefit from it.  Then those around you will catch the light from you....

Pass on the Hope today.

Laurie

But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything in it will be laid bare. Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be? You ought to live holy and godly lives” 2 Peter 3:10-11

Mixed Media Collage Horse Paintings by Texas Artist Laurie Justus Pace

© G.O.D. Laurie Justus Pace      Graphics One Design 2013 Horse Collage Fall 2013  12 x 18 inches Mixed Media on Canvas.  This was an intentional paint to imitate one of the 100 ponies I did in 2012. That poor little 8 x 10 pony was loved by a company to do very large prints and it was not here for me to even use to scan... so I created something with the same heart, a kindred spirit. The underlays are pages from a western book and then torn papers of different varieties were added along with stains of paint and purposeful areas of paint.  This would not be a painting I would do today, but the goal was to capture the spirit of the first painting. EXHAUSTED Woman Figurative Oil Painting, Art Deco Painting, Art Abstract Painting, Women in Kitchen Oil Painting by Texas Artist Laurie Pace

Laurie     © Laurie Justus Pace     Graphics One Design 2010 My Website   Thinking ahead to the Thanksgiving celebration next week, I remembered back to those previous dinners that I cooked, served, ate quickly, and cleaned up.  This is how I felt.  It is probably strange...even for me but I had the best fun sketching it out and painting it. We lost another dear family member this week. She has celebrated her 'continuation' day and is now with her mom and dad and her other cousins.  She leaves behind a family that will always celebrate her gentleness.  My aunt was special to all of us. She loved each of us dearly for who we were and was always ready with a hug or a 'good job'.    My memories are of breakfast pastries smeared with butter on top. It was not like they were not sweet enough as they were, but at her small kitch...

Sleeping Cowboy . Ernest Hemingway . Sunday, a day of rest . Western Painting by Texas Artist Laurie Pace

My life has the tendency to fall apart when I'm awake, you know?” Ernest Hemingway  I really enjoyed painting this scene. It was restful to me as the artist  and loved by our friends.  Sunday is the day of rest. I smiled when I found this in archives and thought it perfect for this day.  If you live in Texas you know that we still have 'rules' about not selling liquor before noon.  If you live in Texas and are in your late thirties and up, you might even remember Blue Laws.   Stores were simply NOT open...
