The Painting: Chocolate Chocolate Chocolate....that is what you see and feel when you look at this painting. If there is one layer there are 14 or more layers of paint and pulls. This was done over a three day period. The first layer again was acrylic and then the next ones were pulls of thick buttery oils....colors overlaid and blending.
The Thought: A common subject with most Americans would be the IRS and our nation. The IRS had its first root back during the Civil War. Did you know that? President Lincoln with the help of Congress in the year 1862, created a "position" for a commissioner of Internal Revenue. Then they enacted an income tax to pay for all the war expenses. Ten years later the bill was repealed and in 1894 Congress revived the income tax bill. In 1895, a year later, the Supreme Court ruled it unconstitutional.
It was the state of Wyoming in 1913, that ratified the 16th amendment giving Congress the authority to enact an income tax. That is the first year Congress levied a 1% tax on net personal income above $3000, with a 6% surtax on incomes of more than $500,000. Since this time it has been as high as 77% in 1918 (EEK) and back down again to 24% during the great depression.
Does anyone know why we have to do it this way? I propose the thought of a general federal tax on any item ANYONE buys in this country. Base it on buying rather than income.
Yes I am a grumbler when it comes to our current system. That is my two cents worth at least on the subject. Somehow we (the middle income group) pay in so much to the government and yet we watch it go out uncontrollably for things that do not benefit us. It is not a perfect taxing system or a perfect representation system.
How is your system at home?
Biblically God asks us to help those in need. Start in your family and work your way out into your community. If you have something you can give, be it time, money, talents, etc. share it with others. Resources both spiritual and material can be shared with others. I can't fix the IRS or change our taxation system, but I can give to those around me and make changes in their lives.
Where can you give today?
