I took the time to hand paint some verses from 2 Kings 2 across the bottom of the painting. I will know they are there and it strengthens me to paint on with the spirit of the writing.  With the second image I have begun to use my oils and my palette knife pulling patterns and colors throughout the contemporary horse painting. I miss working with my oils and knife. Our family knows ALL too well about the flu as that is what took my grandson, Grant, from us five years ago, from complications to the flu.  Yes, Flu shots are important, but even more important is NOT going back to work sick. NOT going to the store. NOT going out to eat. The media needs to stress this even more. I sketched this on a canvas early fall. As I return to the studio, I pulled it out and put it on my easel. I picked up my bible and began to graze through the familiar words and my journey took me to 2 Kings and first paragraph in this chapter where Elijah has been told he will go to heaven in a whirlwind.  It reminded me of how we all will die one day and we do not ever know how or when. Only God knows.  So as I work on this painting, it will be inspired by this reading this morning. The first layers are rubbed in with Acrylics sealing the canvas and preparing the under foundations of the painting.  And it came to pass, when the Lord would take up Elijah into heaven by a whirlwind, that Elijah went with Elisha from Gilgal. ...

I only wish you could see it in person. The depth of the paint creates valleys and rises throughout the painting giving it a dimensional textured feel. After visiting New York in 2010 and watching the competition of jumpers there for a cool 'million' first place, I was upfront in the press area shooting images to paint from. The neck of the horse when it jumps radiates power and direction as if it is pulling the world forward and suddenly it seems like the back end of the horse weighs nothing as it literally 'flies' across the bars.  This is the waiting stage... waiting and living with it.  Psalm 22:19 But you, O LORD, be not far off;  O my Strength, come quickly to help me.
