It was late late afternoon last night when I finished this contemporary horse painting. Too late to get a decent image of it without sheen showing up on the deep dark browns. A tweak in photo shop so this is the best I could do for the blog this morning. Usually I shoot paintings between ten and three.
Yesterday I wrote about staying the course with this painting because I knew in my heart it was not complete. Right now I feel it is finished. Usually I would be peppering the painting with Violets, oranges, turquoise, green etc... but I stopped at three different blues, deep reds, a tiny bit of orange, browns, golds and whites. I worked more on the necks of the front two horses and finished their tails and their manes. You will see deeper mid values in the space under the horses as well as the upper area working into the dark and along the grass line. Now it is done. Now you see the horses emerging from the dusk into the light.
Our journeys in life are often this way. If we are tied up in too many directions we lose site of the light. We cannot find our way without God's light. We have to stay the course...His course and not ours. We have to stay open to roll with changes as they occur and keep our eyes focused on God... he is the most important thing in our existence. Uriel is the Angel of Light. Perhaps you can envision this heavenly light and what it would be like to be running toward it... unable to be swayed by anything in this earthly world around you.
You often find Uriel in Renaissance paintings; for example, Virgin of the Rocks by Da Vinci. If you read about the subject matter you will find Uriel is part of the painting along with another angel.
"You're blessed when you stay on course, walking steadily on the road revealed by God. You're blessed when you follow his directions, doing your best to find him. That's right - you don't go off on your own; you walk straight along the road he set. "
