Face Within

This painting led off in my woman series of warriors back in 2022. Returning to figurative painting for a small collection, this one is magical. Can you find the second face?

Layers of color and overlays criss cross this entire painting mapping out two faces.  Can you find the second one?  30 x 40 inches lush bright colors. Piled and layered by brush and palette knife. I am known and collected for my intense color.

The Latest Quest

Putting God first.  In the Bible it makes it seem very simple. From my understanding, we need to move our thinking process and all our thoughts to a divine level. Once we do that, we’ll see that God‘s actually got all the physical stuff taken care of. Had to think about that forward to really define what a divine level might mean. And Colossians, chapter 3 verse two, it says “Set your mind on things above, not on things of the earth.”  In Matthew, chapter 6 verse 30, it says “Seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.”

I read a quote from a man named Jay Adams. “God has only given us today. He strongly forbid us to become concerned about what happens. Worriers not only want what has been forbidden, but also fail to use what has been given to them. “

The challenges to interpret the meaning of “Seek God‘s kingdom“ threw me off for a few moments as I thought about it. What exactly do you do throughout the day and evening to seek his kingdom? Is this how you move your thoughts to a divine level?

It definitely came across in my reading that worry is a sin. I realized I’m a worrier, just like my Mother before me.  It certainly makes me appreciate those people who laugh so easily and take life at different angle. Then I guess I do worry. I’m a mother, I’m a worrier. Are you also one of those people that likes to have a plan in place? Every morning when you get up, do you know exactly what you’re going to do? Better yet, have you ever asked God what you should do? To actually be heading in the right direction of God‘s grace, I think I have to stop worrying and start my planning through Him.  Then I can take the time to talk to him about all decisions I need to make and our plans I might want to put in place for the day. The trick will be to not allow that worry space to enter my mind or my day.

I already am one of those 5 AM people, that I am in the word when I wake up, and reading some of my Bible verses and inspirations for the day. My favorite one is Streams in the Desert. I have the book and I have the app. Since I am up early and Hubby is asleep, I use my app. I love it, it has extra verses and a morning prayer.  If I go back in the evening, there is an evening prayer. The photography is stunning.  My second favorite app is called Inspirations. It has a thought and a message that is short but power packed…maybe three paragraphs.  There is even a prayer. Again, the photography is rich and full. They also have a built in journal. 😍☺️😀

The next quote I encountered was again from Jay Adam’s and it did address fear. ‘’Many are often paralyzed by fearful thoughts or fearful worries. God does not want us to live a life of fear and anxiety.” Most people pray for Him to help them over come their fears. That is putting the cart before the horse. God wants you to be seeking him first, and second will come your fears and or your worry.

Matthew 6:3 “Seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness. “ Do this before you take on fears or worries. If not you won’t achieve either.

Do you consult God on your schedule for the day? Make Him your priority. Seek the Lord and his commandments.

Well, if you are supposed to seek Him, it means you are supposed to be dependent on him. Can you do that, give God the lead in your life?

You have an automatic side kick to be with you 24 - 7. In John 16:7-13. Basically Jesus is telling His disciples he has to leave, but the helper he will send to them is The Holy Spirit… He has left one for each of us. This is another direct connection to God.

Some of these things are easier to grasp.  To have God first, spend your time with Him each morning. Read his word, find some spiritual blogs you like or as I did, find some apps. This is your pursuit of Him and His wisdom.

There are so many things I could add here, but the blog gets too long. Thank you for this journey and this day.

Isaiah 30:21 “The Lord promises you His guidance from moment to moment.”

Philippians 4:6-9 wraps it all up.
‘Have no anxiety about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God which passes all understanding, will keep your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Finally, brethren, whatever is true, what ever is honorable. Whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is gracious, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of  praise, think about these things. What you have learned and received, and heard and seen in me, do; and the God of peace will be with you. “

Mixed Media Collage Horse Paintings by Texas Artist Laurie Justus Pace

© G.O.D. Laurie Justus Pace      Graphics One Design 2013 Horse Collage Fall 2013  12 x 18 inches Mixed Media on Canvas.  This was an intentional paint to imitate one of the 100 ponies I did in 2012. That poor little 8 x 10 pony was loved by a company to do very large prints and it was not here for me to even use to scan... so I created something with the same heart, a kindred spirit. The underlays are pages from a western book and then torn papers of different varieties were added along with stains of paint and purposeful areas of paint.  This would not be a painting I would do today, but the goal was to capture the spirit of the first painting. Laurie     © Laurie Justus Pace     Graphics One Design 2010 My Website   Thinking ahead to the Thanksgiving celebration next week, I remembered back to those previous dinners that I cooked, served, ate quickly, and cleaned up.  This is how I felt.  It is probably strange...even for me but I had the best fun sketching it out and painting it. We lost another dear family member this week. She has celebrated her 'continuation' day and is now with her mom and dad and her other cousins.  She leaves behind a family that will always celebrate her gentleness.  My aunt was special to all of us. She loved each of us dearly for who we were and was always ready with a hug or a 'good job'.    My memories are of breakfast pastries smeared with butter on top. It was not like they were not sweet enough as they were, but at her small kitch...

My life has the tendency to fall apart when I'm awake, you know?” Ernest Hemingway  I really enjoyed painting this scene. It was restful to me as the artist  and loved by our friends.  Sunday is the day of rest. I smiled when I found this in archives and thought it perfect for this day.  If you live in Texas you know that we still have 'rules' about not selling liquor before noon.  If you live in Texas and are in your late thirties and up, you might even remember Blue Laws.   Stores were simply NOT open...
