“If you keep your feet from breaking the Sabbath and from doing as you please on my holy day, if you call the Sabbath a delight and the Lord’s holy day honorable, and if you honor it by not going your own way and not doing as you please or speaking idle words, then you will find your joy in the Lord, and I will cause you to ride in triumph on the heights of the land
and to feast on the inheritance of your father Jacob.” For the mouth of the Lord has spoken." Isaiah 58:13-14
Sunday Paint before Church
The year was 2005
It was really a thought in my head when I woke up at three a.m. and headed to the studio, not a full painting! Once I started it, it kept going on it's own. I listed it up for sale and by the time we returned from church, it was purchased. I think it was the thick paint and all the reds that drew attention to it. When I began layering the paint.. it created a colorful over lay and I threw in the blue to pull the eyes through a sweeping movement down. Sort of like going down a slide!
Some days I miss the ease of eBay and painting and listing. People that followed me were always eager to see the new pieces...which there were usually 6 every week. Subjects were diverse and I always made it fun! I wish I could paint like that today... painting every day.. posting them and selling them.
This leans into 'working' on the Sabbath. I normally try to keep Sabbath for the Lord either on Saturday or on Sunday. I also like to cook ahead so our time is spent with the Lord or with family and the Lord. When I am called in the early mornings to paint, I go and do it. Usually I have praise music on and spend time with my mind on people I am praying for. I can count maybe a dozen times I painted on a Sunday. I remember one Sunday three years ago I painted an entire 60 x 90 inch painting with 90 percent of it finished that day. That was right after Covid hit. Everyday was God's day during those two years. We abided tightly with Him.
Honor the Lord. A good friend from my childhood church attended her local church this past Sunday. Here is what she wrote on Facebook:
Jani shared a lesson from today…it is deep and needed.
First Sunday in Lent: Matthew 4: 1-11
Very impactful worship service this morning at Fellowship UMC. Sharing this because I feel strongly the “ask”/action item our pastor challenged us with this week is important for all of us to reflect on.
Jesus went in to the wilderness to be tested by the devil. He fasted forty days and forty nights.
The Bible tells us He was tested 3 times against temptation, respect and control. After the 3rd time Jesus denied the devil he said, “Away with you satan! For it is written, Worship the Lord your God, and serve only Him”.
This week, ask yourself- “What am I feeding (worshipping)? Is it truly my Faith? Or is it the monster? (greed, hate, materialism, status, popularity, vanity, etc.)
Believe in Him.
