Mother's Day 2014
For all the mothers that read my blog, this one is for you.
For my own mother... this is especially for you.
Every mother is made up of layers of gifts, just like the petals on this rose. Some of these are gifts are gifts of love, courage, healing, listening, understanding, acceptance, wisdom, teaching, joy, and believing. The list is endless when you have a mom like mine. She cornered the market on those yearly science experiments we had to do. The one that sticks out in my mind the most was making water run uphill. When did she get so smart? I was only in fourth grade then. I hated science.
I remember her teaching me from early grades forward, that there would always be people in my life that were different, or angry, or mean, or sad. Each of this people were children of God and it was my mission to find the good in them. She actually convinced me by second grade there was good in everyone, I just had to look.
It is the early lessons that became the foundation of who I am today. I took into my marriage and the raising of my children the gifts my mother passed on to me. She is a hard act to follow. My children are grown and two of them have children of their own... one has grand-dogs for me...but it still counts. Seeing her gifts that were passed to me, passed on to them and now to their children continues the great love of motherhood that came from my grandmother to my mother, and it continues on to her great-grandchildren, my grandchildren.
From scrapped knees and bike falls to tornado warnings; from BlueBirds to Campfire Girls and then to Rainbow Girls; from Sunday School to confirmation; from those early years of piano...on through organ and my guitar; from the bargain hunts for clothes at Margie's in Lockwood, to my modeling days at Neiman Marcus in high school; from my first kiss in second grade from Brian to my wedding with Terry; from the birth of each of my three children to the loss of my father, your loving husband; from the laughter, the love, the tears and the moments shared...
You have been here every day of my life cheering me on and encouraging me to laugh, love and live in God's light and grace; to listen for His guidance and to lean on Him daily.
Thank you for always being there.
Happy Mother's Day.
The Giving continues...
I love you.
