This gorgeous horse painting was done in 2010, probably in March.  We moved to the lake in April and I did not paint for about four weeks! Strong in color, deep with values, and full of energy! What is unusual, it is painted with a brush and not a palette knife! Fun looking back in time!

“Never lose hope. Storms make people stronger and never last forever.”― Roy T. Bennett, The Light in the Heart

Storms

The phone starts by giving me a loud warning "siren" and I know in Texas it means storms are moving in. If we are not home, we take the nearest route to get there. Living in the Dallas Ft Worth area, our population is a mixture of people and most of them are not from Texas.  Driving can present a problem in normal weather, and if you throw in a super cell of thunder clouds, hail, and a tornado watch...some folks just cannot drive at all.

When storms hit... we all want to get to safety. It is easy to get frightened followed by fearful and at that point it is easy to get to faithless in the midst of the storm. (I wear my Daddy's army helmet when we take cover in our utility room.) I was around six when my Uncle Myron talked to me about storms and lightening and thunder along with tornadoes.  Dallas had a huge tornado around the time we moved here from St Louis. It was one of the first well documented tornados at that time. Read here.  My uncle explained enough to me, that I carried it forward in my life.  Even living upstairs.. I would roll over and know that God has me covered.

Storms, whether they manifest in the weather or within our lives, possess a remarkable ability to stir our emotions and invoke change. A weather storm, with furious winds and torrential rains, easily mirrors some of the turbulence we face as humans in our lives. The power of a storm can change in seconds... in the air or in our lives. Our personal storms may actually shake our core beliefs and may even challenge our resilience. We grow through each challenge in our life... and In any storm, weather or personal, we can find beauty.

With personal storms I rely on my faith and the belief the Lord walks with me in life.  I have discovered new strengths with every personal storm and I have learned to be still and abide with Him.

He reached down from on high and took hold of me; he drew me out of deep waters." 2 Samuel: 22:17

Mixed Media Collage Horse Paintings by Texas Artist Laurie Justus Pace

© G.O.D. Laurie Justus Pace      Graphics One Design 2013 Horse Collage Fall 2013  12 x 18 inches Mixed Media on Canvas.  This was an intentional paint to imitate one of the 100 ponies I did in 2012. That poor little 8 x 10 pony was loved by a company to do very large prints and it was not here for me to even use to scan... so I created something with the same heart, a kindred spirit. The underlays are pages from a western book and then torn papers of different varieties were added along with stains of paint and purposeful areas of paint.  This would not be a painting I would do today, but the goal was to capture the spirit of the first painting. Laurie     © Laurie Justus Pace     Graphics One Design 2010 My Website   Thinking ahead to the Thanksgiving celebration next week, I remembered back to those previous dinners that I cooked, served, ate quickly, and cleaned up.  This is how I felt.  It is probably strange...even for me but I had the best fun sketching it out and painting it. We lost another dear family member this week. She has celebrated her 'continuation' day and is now with her mom and dad and her other cousins.  She leaves behind a family that will always celebrate her gentleness.  My aunt was special to all of us. She loved each of us dearly for who we were and was always ready with a hug or a 'good job'.    My memories are of breakfast pastries smeared with butter on top. It was not like they were not sweet enough as they were, but at her small kitch...

Sleeping Cowboy . Ernest Hemingway . Sunday, a day of rest . Western Painting by Texas Artist Laurie Pace

My life has the tendency to fall apart when I'm awake, you know?” Ernest Hemingway  I really enjoyed painting this scene. It was restful to me as the artist  and loved by our friends.  Sunday is the day of rest. I smiled when I found this in archives and thought it perfect for this day.  If you live in Texas you know that we still have 'rules' about not selling liquor before noon.  If you live in Texas and are in your late thirties and up, you might even remember Blue Laws.   Stores were simply NOT open...
