The Power of the Paint

In the creating of a painting, there is power!  That is how the painting above was named this morning. The energy was amazing.

Painting intuitively brings the strong advantage of power to the artist. There is power in the color of the paints. There is power in the composition of the painting. There is power in the spirit of the paintings. There is power in the creation of the painting.  Each painting has the ability to reach a heart where it belongs!

I am considering teaching again from my home studio. Have not decided if I will do a full workshop, but it is on  my mind! It is always interesting to discover the path artists are on, and where they hope to go.  What paintings from the past centuries do they like? What artist captures their heart?

There are millions of people out there trying to teach you how to paint. I am not sure how many artists are out there, I would not want to count them. There is something empowering if you have taken a few art courses or gotten your degree in art, and suddenly you feel you can teach art.  After 45 years, of which 42 were teaching privately and in public schools, I am a qualified instructor. It truly is important to chose instructors who will lead ... but know when to step back... as they want you to take the lead on what you are creating. They should never touch your work. Never paint on your paintings. They should empower you by leading you through process both in your mind, and your brush.

I always tease my younger students about grocery shopping, lists, and ingredients and recipes. If you do not read the recipe and put it together with the right ingredients, it could be a failure in the making.

There are seven elements of art. The seven elements are:

  • line
  • shape
  • form
  • space
  • value
  • color
  • texture.
These elements are the essential components, or building blocks, of all artwork. Any good artwork should consist of a combination of these 7 ingredients.

If you are able to critic a piece of art, I might believe you are ready to paint. There is always history involved looking at how master painters created their works.  Today's artist seems to want to jump in and paint or worse, they want to jump in and teach.  There is nothing wrong in it, but it works better if you know what elements you want to use and sketch out your composition before you begin.

Do you realize how many artists are on FB ads trying to lure you into their magic courses to make you a great abstract painter? Beware of paint like me teachers. While you may love the teacher's body of artwork, trying to copy what works for them is not healthy learning for you. One of the BEST instructors I have taken several courses with the past five years and NEVER disappointed, is Melinda Cootsona. Here is a link to her courses. They are online and you will LEARN every step of the way, why you are doing and how it all connects together.

After teaching as many years as I have, you would think I would do the video courses. While they are great money makers for the artist, it does not get you one on one instruction... with in a class. I have thought about private lessons through Zoom, but I have not decided.  I am leaning more to teach people from this home area and passing on the spirit of the paint. All things are possible with God.. .including this.

A Bit of Wonder Contemporary Horse Oil Daily Painting Art by Laurie Justus Pace 24 x 30 x 2 inches of thick buttery oils! Contact me to purchase: Laurie "This is the day that the Lord has made; Let us rejoice and be glad in it". Psalm 118:24 It was a day of celebration yesterday as Lauren Gracen was born. Stacey began her labor around nine in the morning and was ready to push by 12:15, but they held her off while getting things set up. Took four good contractions with multiple pushes and the baby was there! All grandparents accounted for to count the toes and fingers! My admiration is for my daughter and her bravery and calmness despite the tension and newness of what she faced. I was honored to be there as the baby was delivered seeing my granddaughter push out into the light and take her first breathe... and then cry... and that she did. Terry was able to participate and he and Larry helped with pushing and getting Stacey upright for the process and then Terry was hon...

Arrival...Refrigerator?

© Laurie Pace        Graphics One Design 2024 Arrival Oil on Canvas  SOLD   by Laurie Pace   Proverbs 16:3 "Commit to the Lord whtever you do, and he will establish your plans."   Worrisome times laced with prayers.   The world seems like a scary place lately. Praying for everyone affected by the last two hurricanes.  My adventures today were the result of a dead refrigerator. I have loved my Kitchen Aid refrigerator very much. The first one in the 'French Kitchen' look died at 13 months. Hubby wanted the same refrigerator. Well this one made it four years and a few months. I cannot believe appliances are not made to last longer...but wait, is that because they make more money if we have to replace it in 4-5 years?  You replace your mattress at least every 7 years... and your washer dryer, you might get 7 years out of those... The stoves seem to make it closer to 10 years. We are Lowe's customers, and Robert ...
