"This was a journey I enjoyed. From a tulip photo I took in my kitchen about 10 years ago... I tried looking at it and dissect it into a "pop" feeling to it. The creativity part was relaxing and the final touch ups very rewarding! The background is my favorite blue on the right side. The underlay of the painting had a soft bright orange that comes through near the bottom. Hope it calls to a heart for a new home! Makes me want to party!"
Changing Directions
I remember my father-in-law and his wonderful sense of humor. I only saw him angry twice, the rest of the time he wore a smile as big as Texas and it made his eye wrinkle up and smile at the same time. His favorite saying was, "He can get glad just like he got mad." Ben Pace did not abide by anger, or ugliness, or even being depressed or down. He was a believer his entire life and lived his life to the fullest to honor God in every situation.
Ben loved deeply and family meant everything to him. He was one of 10 children in his family along with several adopted kids along the way. If I am remembering correctly, one Sunday on the way to church in the wagon, his parents found a baby left in the wagon tracks. He became part of their family that very day. I think I remember some cousins were raised with their large family as well. With that many kids in one house, you know there were 'encounters' and they were not always with smiles.
Ben learned early to adjust his attitude. I heard about this over 30 years ago while I was still teaching art at public school. I like the adjustment idea...and I fashioned up an attitude adjustment hat. It was a straw wide brim gardening hat that was decorated all over the top of the hat with buttons, and fabrics and treasures found... But the best part my students liked was the dangling balls from the brim all the way around it. Each ball was a bright color hanging down about three inches. There were always giggles heard from under the wide brim. No one could stay in a bad mood wearing an attitude adjustment hat. They would twist and turn their head to the movement of those colorful balls and laugh!
This could be applied in your life in many areas. When we got married, a few years later, I shopped for an attitude adjustment nightgown. Yes it worked. Men could also learn to bring home attitude adjustment flowers. That will wow any wife! Just small simple things to take your mind off what is dragging you down. What could you do for someone?
As we have aged, I have taken the spiritual route for myself if I feel down, depressed, sad or unworthy. I imagine God, my Father, sitting in front of me saying, 'What are you doing? Have you forgotten all I have given you?' In this day and age it is easy to slide off into a pity party. Stop the churning thoughts popping up through your head and focus on the joy, love and power God surrounds you with all the time.
It is real simple... change your direction. You can do it at any time, and any where.
