a part of a painting.... WATER
The Water in Your Life
We were on a trip returning from Saugerties, New York, driving through Pennsylvania when I spotted something that created a huge change in my life. We were on a two lane road, (I do have a photo on my other computer), passing barns and older homes with wash hanging on the lines.. which included colorful quilts. As we turned a sharp curve/corner in the road and we slipped into the cover of woods. I had the window rolled down and begin to catch a glimmer in the tree line of tree trunks. It was a large brook with racing water tumbling over large rocks. We followed parallel to the 'brook' stream for almost two full miles before it bent another direction. The spray of running water through the large stones through out this stream rose high in the filtered light. We were doing at least 65 miles an hour and I attempted to grab photos with my new Canon camera and only caught a few. (This is not my photo, but I promise to share it next time if I find it. But imagine this widescreen and the water flowing faster and you got it.)
What promoted this blog was last week's edition of Epoch Times Newspaper. "The Way of Water'. by Tatiana Denning. After I snapped those photos in 2010, we were racing back to Dallas as my Father in laws health was failing suddenly and we were in a panic. As I prayed, I realized God placed that stream there for us to see. Water flows around and over the large rocks in its path. You cannot stop it... it is 'living' in that moment and seeking a path through the difficulties in the stream. From that day forward, September 15th 2010, when I get worried, uptight, mad or sad, I am swept back to that day and the stream. I began to realize the power of letting it go and walking through things my way seeking the easiest path.
The article I just read reminded me that water makes up more than 2/3 rds of the earth's surface. Thinking back in science you know water is in the air with evaporation and rain...and surrounding us and nurturing us on earth. Water changes form from ice to steam. It is in our bodies. Water is the foundation of our cells, and the heart and the brain are 73% water. Our skin is 64% water and our lungs are 83 percent water, while our bones are only 31 percent water. It is used to lubricate things in our body and flush systems and carries oxygen to our cells. We all know we are to stay hydrated and drink more water for our health. It effects our memory and our focus, our mood, and our blood pressure. Health wise too much water can result in congestive heart failure, nausea, diarrhea or low sodium and low electrolytes. Can you tell water is important to your body?
What I learned that long ago day was how this lesson of the flow of water to 'let go and flow' was how I should live my life. Water adapts to wherever it flows and changes how it needs to with evaporation, mist, steam or even ice. You and I must adapt in the same way. The old saying of change is one thing we can count on in life.... and a favorite quote is "I can't change the direction of the wind, but I can adjust my sails to always reach my destination.” -Jimmy Dean. (If you have been a reader of my blog, you know that hubby sails... and yes I go with him!)
Water is soft and yielding. Lao Tzu, Tao Te Ching "Nothing in the world is as soft and yielding as water, yet for dissolving the hard and inflexible, nothing can surpass it." The flowing water I saw had incredible strength as it gained speed going down the hill, actually carving out the sides of the stream. Yet, you could sense the patience of the water in the stream, relaxed and just letting go to its destination splashing over and around large boulders in its path. Water was playing. Perhaps this is all something we should consider. The writer of the article, Tatiana Denning suggested "Just as water adapts and takes on different forms, so must we continuously let go of our current state to change and grow." She mentioned the reflective ability of water and tied it into our turbulent minds that grow out of anger or frustration. That would be the muddy water stirred up with dirt and debris. My mom always told me pretty is as pretty does... but when it comes to mind and matter, if your heart is angry and your mind is muddled, so will be your words and attitude.
It would be best to learn to let go of anger, upset, hurt and frustration. Acknowledge it as it passes through, but let it go and dissipate as peace roots back within you.
Epoch Times always has interesting articles in the Mind and Body section. We have been subscribers for several years. Have a great week ahead!
