Sunrise Friend, a Painted Pony by Texas Artist Laurie Pace

Just jumping straight into this painting and the process.  I began with a different surface as I sketched out three horses and began pulling the paint.  It looked painful, so I put it out of its misery and began pulling colors together and flipping the canvas around.  

Then I saw the two horses as clear as can be. Forward with more pulled paint and you have Sunrise Friend.  The beauty of these painted ponies is the style. I have been collected for these since about 2005, so over 15 years. I paint other styles of horses and lately really pretty ones on birch. But these paintings are freedom and love knitted together on the surface with intuitive painting and discovery. 

Remember on my site right now this year is 199 paintings for $199 each.  I think I am up to about 55 or 56 pieces and this is just February.  I will do you a small one of what you want and paint for your personally. Just reach out on my contact page on the website.

That poor little 8 x 10 pony was loved by a company to do very large prints and it was not here for me to even use to scan... so I created something with the same heart, a kindred spirit. The underlays are pages from a western book and then torn papers of different varieties were added along with stains of paint and purposeful areas of paint.  This would not be a painting I would do today, but the goal was to capture the spirit of the first painting. We lost another dear family member this week. She has celebrated her 'continuation' day and is now with her mom and dad and her other cousins.  She leaves behind a family that will always celebrate her gentleness.  My aunt was special to all of us. She loved each of us dearly for who we were and was always ready with a hug or a 'good job'.    My memories are of breakfast pastries smeared with butter on top. It was not like they were not sweet enough as they were, but at her small kitch...
