“Words are easy, like the wind; Faithful friends are hard to find.” William Shakespeare
Are you a talker or a listener? Not sure about what you answer to yourself here, but 95 percent of the time... I tend to be quiet and withdrawn. Then there is that 5 percent where I cannot seem to stop talking. Usually that is where I am offering advice or a story that pertains to someone's question to me. I have learned as I aged, there is a time and a place to offer up information or advice. I know now that my kids do not listen to any of it....but they have suddenly aged and made me age considerably. Two of them are over forty and the youngest will be there in two years.
Usually people talk when they want to share or offer up something that is vitally important to them. It could be based on almost anything. Let's face it, we all have an opinion about something if not everything. We all want to be 'heard'.
The older I have gotten, the more I realize the value in not talking. I enjoy sitting back and taking in all the conversations going on around me at family gatherings. You seem to learn so much more just smiling and nodding. Sitting back quietly gives you the ability to deeply consider the emotions and actions of those around you.
"A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in him, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in him. But I tell you that everyone will have to give account on the day of judgment for every empty word they have spoken. For by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned.”
Matthew 12:35-37
