"I run because if I didn’t, I’d be sluggish and glum and spend too much time on the couch. I run to breathe the fresh air. I run to explore. I run to escape the ordinary. I run…to savor the trip along the way. Life becomes a little more vibrant, a little more intense. I like that." Dean Karnazes, Ultramarathon Man: Confessions of an All Night Runner.
Most of us think of night as the time to rest and recover from the day. There are some people that come alive at night... they are the late risers in the morning because their joy comes in the evening.
I sort of cross over this. I like to go to bed before nine but I am up way before the sun, usually by 4 or 4:30 a.m. I absolutely love the solitude of the house in the early morning, and when we lived at the lake, we would always take our morning walk at seven no matter what the season. I do miss that. Here you walk dodging traffic and school buses and have the huge roar of the freeway a few miles away.
Life in the city never is quiet. It is a constant roar of energy, sound, lights and people. There is no rest. As much as we would LOVE to return to the lake, it is one of those things that we closed all doors to it and if God has it in his plans for us, he will open the door we need and we will know. Meanwhile I will do what my parents taught me, bloom where you are planted right now.
"As long as the earth endures, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night will never cease." Genesis 8:22
