“No one can construct for you the bridge upon which precisely you must cross the stream of life, no one but you yourself alone.” ― Friedrich Nietzsche
I have a simple question this morning . . . do you build more walls or bridges in your life?
Most people are not in the middle... they do one or the other. It is a choice we all make if we form walls or barriers or if we build bridges to cross and meet others.
While it is true, we all need our space and boundaries set in our lives, but do we need to erect a wall to do this? I know in my life I often need a spiritual wall of protection or for meditation and prayers. It is my space and for me it is divine. No bricks, mortar, wood or stones.
The walls I am talking about are the walls be build around ourselves fueled by fear, lack of forgiveness or just wanting to hole away and put up a defense. Those walls that isolate you. The taller you make these walls, the longer it takes to climb back over them. If you build enough walls in life, it makes it impossible to even get to God and heaven.
A bridge is built to open a path to the other side. To span and connect two places. It is not easy. The strength and muscles needed to build a bridge to hold up under all 'weight' creates thought, discipline, strong muscles and faith... and is often filled with times of trials to make it safe and secure. Bridges are built with faith and humility, wisdom, fortitude, knowledge, acceptance and community. They are built with others in mind to connect.
"So those who are last now will be first then, and those who are first will be last." Matthew 20:16
