“One winter morning Peter woke up and looked out the window. Snow had fallen during the night. It covered everything as far as he could see.” ― Ezra Jack Keats, The Snowy Day
It is the fourth Sunday in Advent. In one week it will be Christmas. Today we will light three purple candles and our Pink Candle. This new candle represents PEACE. Our current life here in the USA is anything but safe and sane after the last year. Never in my life have I witnessed family members turning against each other as well as life long friends. People just seem to hurt other people. The world and the United States seems full of discord, people screaming to be heard, the ME generation protesting, riots, the shooting of police officers, bombing, and murder and mutilation. Is your skin crawling yet?
This is the day we light the candle of peace.
How do we bring it into our lives, and the lives of people in our community and nation? Can we stop shouting at each other? The opinions of others is not important...and neither is yours. What is important is God's word and his promises to us of PEACE. During advent we should be praying that we, as well as other people, will seek God's peace in our lives and our world. In times of war and hatred, elections and change, we often forget that Jesus is the only who brings peace. So as we enter this last week before we celebrate Jesus' first coming, we should remember that God wanted our world to be a place of peace.
CHRISTMAS PEACE TO YOU.
John 14:27, "Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you."
