“Finish each day and be done with it. You have done what you could. Some blunders and absurdities no doubt crept in; forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is a new day. You shall begin it serenely and with too high a spirit to be encumbered with your old nonsense.” ― Ralph Waldo Emerson
I am in the studio working this week. I am experimenting and trying new products and surfaces. This may be a boring work week for you to see the same painting in steps, but for the week between Christmas and New Years, this is the best I can do.
I am working on a birch mounted panel on deep sides of birch. Here I am using a walnut glaze from a tube that mixes with the oils. I have the habit creeping in of loving rich deep colors and I know this could be a struggle with this painting.
As we are closing out 2016 there is an entire year to look back upon. There were always THOSE days that were either totally fun and exciting, or THOSE DAYS that were full and fraught with backward moments and unexpected difficulties. That is the best way I can describe life in my studio. I always seem to have this idea in my head of how things should be... or a destination I am reaching for.. and then of course it does not work. You cannot force spirit into a painting. It has to come naturally.
We cannot force our life and our days here on this earth. Letting go and entrusting it to God is the hardest thing to do. We all seem to have control issues... in all parts of our lives. So begin each day in the new year of 2017 SERENELY...and with a HIGH SPIRIT. Let go of what has been and let the day become what it evolves to be without your tight control.
""For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." Jeremiah 29:11
