“Be like water making its way through cracks. Do not be assertive, but adjust to the object, and you shall find a way around or through it. If nothing within you stays rigid, outward things will disclose themselves.
Empty your mind, be formless. Shapeless, like water. If you put water into a cup, it becomes the cup. You put water into a bottle and it becomes the bottle. You put it in a teapot, it becomes the teapot. Now, water can flow or it can crash. Be water, my friend.” ― Bruce Lee
This is one of those... it was NOT like water running through the cracks. I was too assertive at the canvas and the spirit of the painting did not thrive. Scrapped it ...and it is large large... 32 x 48. Used four large tubes of Holbein Duo Oils. Plus at least eight other tubes on the background alone. Then I had painted a large horse in the midst of it...striking and strong. That was until I snapped a photo and took it into Photoshop and it just did not look like the same horse on the easel before me. So the knife went to work.. pulling all the colors from the strong horse into waves and movements across the canvas. The paint became like water making its way through the strong horse and overcoming it slowly by passing over it and through it. The painting became formless...shapeless and running off the canvas.
From this 'mess' of freedom came another watering hole painting. This one is in Crested Butte. Five ponies... stopping for refreshment. The water still running through them as the paint retains its freedom on the canvas.
God runs through each of us in the same way... constantly throughout the day and night. He seeps through our cracks to our heart. He finds the way around our struggles and washes them away. He gently ebbs through the maze of pain we pile within. Take a breath and hold it. Then release it with a WOOSH noise. Feel the tension leaving? That is God flowing through you.
What we have received is not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may understand what God has freely given us. 1 Corinthians 2:12
